Sri Vijaya Puram, Mar. 26: A two days HRD programme on Integrated Pest Management practices in vegetable crops was conducted by Central Integrated Pest Management Centre (CIPMC), Sri Vijaya Puram under the Union Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, GoI at Community Hall, Beodnabad Gram Panchayat, South Andaman, in which, 32 farmers, 4 State Agriculture Officials and 2 Gram Panchayat staff participated.
Shri Pankaj Biswas, AFA, State Agriculture Department in his welcome address briefed on the importance of IPM in agriculture crops and organic farming. Shri V. Sivagnanam, PPO (E), CIPMC, Sri Vijaya Puram emphasized upon ill effect of pesticides on human as well as the residual effect of pesticides on vegetables.
Dr. Swarnavo Chakraborty, APPO(PP), CIPMC, Sri Vijaya Puram discussed on major insect pests and diseases management in vegetable crops through IPM practices.
Shri Abhishek Kumar, SA, CIPMC, Sri Vijaya Puram demonstrated seed treatment of vegetable crops with biocontrol agents like Trichoderma viride and Pseudomonas fluorescens. He also discussed about agro-ecosystem analysis in vegetable crops.
Dr. Shiva Kumar H.D., APPO (WS), CIPMC, Sri Vijaya Puram discussed on importance of natural enemies against insect pests of vegetable crops. He also explained about National Pest Surveillance System (NPSS) mobile app to the farmers.
Shri V. Kumar, Sarpanch and Smt. Vineta Devi, Panchayat Secretary were the guest of honour.
