Sri Vijaya Puram, Mar 26: The ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute, in collaboration with the Andaman Science Association, is set to host a one-day workshop titled “Harnessing the Potential of Agro-Ecotourism in the A & N Islands” at its Garacharma campus on March 27, 2025.Agro-ecotourism is an emerging field with the potential to boost farm income, invigorate and diversify the rural economy, and preserve cultural heritage. Ms. Pallavi Sarkar, IAS, Secretary of Agriculture & Animal Husbandry, has graciously accepted the role of Chief Guest for the event.
The workshop aims to address these topics by providing a platform for various stakeholders, including officials from the Union Territory’s Department of Agriculture, practicing entrepreneurs, and representatives from the tourism sector. Participants will engage in discussions on the practical aspects of agro-ecotourism with expert resource persons and share their insights. The agenda will cover a range of subjects, including an overview of agro-ecotourism, horticulture-based agro-ecotourism models, the role of aquatic and farm animals in agro-ecotourism, entrepreneurial opportunities in this sector, and stakeholder perspectives on agro-ecotourism in the Islands.
