Sri Vijaya Puram, Mar 24: Two days HRD Programme on Integrated Pest Management practices in vegetable crops was conducted by Central Integrated Pest Management Centre (CIPMC), Sri Vijayapuram under the Union Ministry of Agri. & Farmers Welfare, Govt. of India at community hall, Beodnabad gram panchayat, South Andaman in which 32 farmers, 04 State Agriculture Officials and 02 gram panchayat staff participated.
Mr. Pankaj Biswas, AFA, State Agriculture department in his welcome address briefed on the Importance of IPM in agriculture crops and Organic Farming.
Mr. V. Sivagnanam, PPO (E), CIPMC, Sri Vijayapuram in his address emphasized upon the ill effect of pesticides on humans as well as the residual effect of pesticides on vegetables.
Dr Swarnavo Chakraborty, APPO (PP), CIPMC, Sri Vijayapuram discussed major insect pests and diseases management in vegetable crops through IPM practices.
Mr. Abhishek Kumar, SA, CIPMC, Sri Vijayapuram demonstrated seed treatment of vegetable crops with biocontrol agents like Trichoderma viride and Pseudomonas fluorescens. He also discussed agro-ecosystem analysis in vegetable crops.
Dr Shiva Kumar H.D., APPO(WS), CIPMC, Sri Vijayapuram discussed the importance of natural enemies against insect pests of vegetable crops. He also explained about the National Pest Surveillance System (NPSS) mobile app to the farmers.
Mr. V. Kumar, Sarpanch and Mr. Vineta Devi, Panchayat Secretary was the guest of honour. In the welcome address they discussed the importance of organic farming and appealed to all the farmers to adopt IPM Practices which are suitable for our Ecology and Environment.
Mr. Baby Rani Biswas, ATM (Agril. Dept.) proposed vote of thanks during valedictory session.
