Sri Vijaya Puram, Mar 23: In a vibrant celebration of chess and community spirit, the Andaman Nicobar Chess Association (ANCA) successfully hosted the ‘Chess for Everyone’ Street Chess Event – ‘Checkmate on Streets’ this evening on the footpath near Labour Club, Dairy Farm. The event aimed to popularize, promote, and make chess accessible to all. It attracted players of all ages and skill levels, creating an electrifying atmosphere of competition and camaraderie.
Mr. Joga Rao, Councillor of Ward No. 14, SVPMC graced the event as esteemed guest and officially inaugurated it by making the ceremonial first move, setting the stage for an engaging chess spectacle.
With around 100 enthusiastic participants, ranging from beginners to seasoned players, the event transformed the streets into a dynamic chess arena. Following the “Winners Stay, Challengers Play!” format, the event encouraged creativity, experimentation, and strategic gameplay in a relaxed and friendly setting.
More than just a competition, the event fostered community engagement, inspired new players, and made chess an inclusive and enjoyable experience for all. Participants showcased bold strategies, daring sacrifices, and quick tactical maneuvers, making for an exciting evening of chess.
Special prizes were awarded to the longest unbeaten players by Mr. Avinash Kumar Singh, S.E., SVPMC, the chief guest for the closing ceremony. In his address, he highlighted how chess cultivates patience, concentration, and perseverance, while also enhancing memory, creativity, and cognitive flexibility—skills essential for adapting to today’s fast-paced world.
He also commended ANCA’s efforts in making chess a public and community-driven activity, helping to bridge generations, instill sportsmanship, and encourage logical reasoning among young minds.
ANCA extends heartfelt thanks to all participants, chess enthusiasts and supporters for making “Checkmate on Streets” a resounding success. The Next Street Chess Event will take place on March 29, 2025, on the footpath leading to the Durga Puja Pandal near Govt. Sec. School, Junglighat.
