Sri Vijayapuram, Mar 19: The Andaman & Nicobar Mahila Congress Committee, under the direction of Mahila Congress National President Smt. Alka Lamba, organized a massive protest on 19th March, 2025 demanding the immediate implementation of the 33% women’s reservation in the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies. The protest was led by State Mahila Congress President Smt. Zubaida Begum and witnessed the participation of several key leaders and party members.
The protest march commenced from Gandhi Bhavan, Port Blair, with a large gathering of Mahila Congress members raising slogans and voicing strong opposition against the BJP-led Central Government for delaying the implementation of the Women’s Reservation Law despite its passage in Parliament.
Several prominent leaders participated in the demonstration, including the ANTCC President Shri Rangalal Halder, ANTCC Spokesperson’s, leaders from various frontal organizations, ANTCC departments and cells, PBMC councilors, and PRI members. The march symbolized the collective demand of Mahila leaders and party members for immediate action on the long-pending legislation, which aims to enhance women’s representation in legislative bodies.
Speaking at the protest, Several Political Leaders emphasized that the delay in implementing the law is a betrayal of women’s rights and aspirations. They urged the Central Government to take immediate steps to fulfill its promise and ensure that women receive their rightful representation in governance.
The protest concluded with a strong resolution demanding the government to prioritize women’s political empowerment and uphold the constitutional promise of gender equality in decision-making bodies.
