Sri Vijaya Puram, Mar. 19: Admiral D K Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), Hon’ble Lt. Governor, A&N Islands and Vice-Chairman, Islands Development Agency participated in the 4th National Sagarmala Apex Committee (NSAC) meeting today at New Delhi as a special invitee with the aim to strengthen the goals of Maritime India Vision 2030 and Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047.
Hon’ble Lt. Governor in his address apprised about a slew of Maritime projects of Andaman & Nicobar Administration aimed at converting A&N Islands into World Class Maritime Cluster after the upcoming mega projects of Construction of Ship-repair & Ship-Construction Hub in the Indo-Pacific region, upcoming International Container Transhipment Terminal where Galathea has been notified as a major port which will be amongst the top three container handling capacity in the country with a capacity of handling 16.5 million TEUs.
Hon’ble Lt. Governor also apprised about Port Meadows which has been notified as the first Ship to Ship Transhipment & Customs Port, both for exports and imports. He also mentioned about the development of Deep Water Port at Atlanta Bay, which would be top two or three in the country and play a crucial role in economic growth and achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat as envisioned by Shri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India.
Further, the Hon’ble Lt. Governor also recommended expedition of Repair/Reconstruction of Jetties of A&N Islands in the first phase and taking up the projects under Sagarmala schemes for early completion.
