Sri Vijaya Puram, Mar 16: A training-cum-orientation session on ‘Prevention and Control of Tobacco Uses’ was held today in the Conference Hall, CHC Bambooflat. The session was organized by the National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) in coordination with National Oral Health Programme (NOHP) under the State Health Society, Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
Mr. Abdul Salam, Health Educator, CHC Bambooflat welcomed the gathering. The programme featured three technical sessions, including ‘Tobacco Control – An Overview’ by Dr. Satayjit Halder, State Nodal Officer (NTCP), who emphasized the importance of tobacco control and the role of healthcare professionals in preventing and controlling tobacco use.
Dr. Sanjeev Jaichand, Nodal Officer (NOHP), delivered a session on ‘Tobacco and Oral Health’, highlighting the link between tobacco use and oral health problems. Dr. Jaichand also conducted a special session on ‘World Oral Health Day’, which is observed on March 20th every year. Dr. Rajiv Ghosh, District Public Health Officer, South Andaman, spoke on ‘Tobacco Control Law’, emphasizing the importance of enforcing tobacco control laws to prevent and control tobacco use.
The training session was attended by healthcare professionals, including Medical Officers, ANMs, Staff Nurses, PHNs, HEs, ASHAs and Anganwadi Workers, who played a crucial role in preventing and controlling tobacco use. The session aimed to equip healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide effective tobacco cessation services and to promote tobacco control efforts in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The National Tobacco Control Programme under the State Health Society will continue to organize training sessions and awareness programs to prevent and control tobacco use in the Islands.
