Port Blair, March 11: The renowned Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team (SKAT) is set to dazzle the skies of Andaman & Nicobar Islands once again with their spectacular airshow. The team, known for its precision flying and breathtaking aerial maneuvers, will perform on March 12 and 13 at 3 PM.
Addressing the public, a team representative urged residents to attend the event in large numbers and witness the exceptional skills of the nine-aircraft formation. Surya Kiran is one of the few teams in Asia capable of such precision aerobatics, making it a moment of pride for the nation. The event aims to inspire the youth to consider careers in the Indian Armed Forces, showcasing the discipline, dedication, and technical expertise required to become a fighter pilot.
The team operates the Hawk Mk-132 aircraft, which also serves as India’s advanced jet trainer for fighter pilots. These jets have been specially modified with gun pods to release tri-color smoke, adding to the visual appeal of their formations.
When asked about the mental and physical challenges of flying in such close formations, the pilots emphasized rigorous daily training, which lasts for six to ten months before they are deemed ready for synchronized flying. The minimum distance between two aircraft during their display is just five meters, demanding exceptional skill and concentration.
Surya Kiran is recognized as one of the world’s top aerobatic teams, with 14 pilots in total, out of which nine are actively flying while the rest serve as standby pilots. They rank among the best in the world, and their performances are highly anticipated across the country.
One of the pilots shared an inspiring message for students, encouraging them to focus on their present studies and activities rather than stressing over future career choices. “When the time comes, whether after Class 12 or graduation, career opportunities will become clear. It’s essential to maintain a balance between academics, extracurriculars, and hobbies,” he said.
The event in Andaman & Nicobar is seen as a tribute to the region and its people, showcasing the strength and capabilities of India’s defense forces. This time, the show will feature new maneuvers and the addition of tricolor smoke, making it even more mesmerizing than the previous performance.
Residents of Andaman & Nicobar are urged to attend and witness the skill, precision, and dedication of the Indian Air Force’s premier aerobatic team, a true symbol of national pride.
