Sri Vijaya Puram, Mar 10: Sri Vijayapuram skies are set to come alive as the Indian Air Force’s elite Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team (SKAT) performs a spectacular air show over Marina Park on 12-13 March 2025, from 03:30 PM to 04:15 PM on both days. Known as the “Ambassadors of the IAF”, SKAT will enthrall spectators with breathtaking manoeuvres, precision flying and a stunning display of aerial prowess.
Formed in 1996, SKAT has captivated audiences with 700+ performances across India and international air shows in China, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, Singapore and the UAE. Operating under the motto “Sadaiva Sarvottam” (Always the Best) the team showcases the highest standards of professionalism, skill and dedication.
Flying in their iconic red-and-white Hawk Mk-132 jets, the team will perform loops, barrel rolls, inverted flying, and their signature DNA manoeuvre. The team, led by Group Captain Ajay Dasarathi, with Group Captain Sidhesh Kartik as Deputy Leader, is the only nine-aircraft aerobatic team in Asia. The aircraft of the team fly in remarkably close formation, maintaining a separation of less than five meters between them.
The other members of the team include Wing Commanders Rajesh Kajla, Arjun Patel, Kuldeep Hooda and Allen George, along with Squadron Leaders Jasdeep Singh, Himkhush Chandel, Ankit Vashisth, Vishnu, Diwakar Sharma, Gaurav Patel, Edward Prince and Lalit Verma. The technical team, led by Wing Commander Abhimanyu Tyadi, is supported by Squadron Leader Sandeep Dhayal and Flight Lieutenant Manil Sharma. The team’s commentator and administrator is Flight Lieutenant Kanwal Sandhu, while Squadron Leader Sudharshan serves as the medical officer.
An indigenous innovation has enhanced the team’s visual appeal-smoke pods capable of producing the three colours of the national flag, developed at an IAF base 11 Base Repair Depot. This modification adds a patriotic dimension to their already impressive repertoire. While SKAT has enthralled audiences at airshows and official events, its performance at Aero India 2025 and recently at Bangkok, Thailand celebrating the 88th anniversary of the Royal Thai Airforce remain unforgettable and globally appreciated.
Today, SKAT stands among the best nine-aircraft display teams in the world-the only one of its kind in Asia. Their performances, held from September to March, feature 35-40 displays, showcasing graceful composite formations and heart-stopping synchro manoeuvres. Teamwork, professionalism, and unwavering trust in each other’s abilities define SKAT as they strive to live up to their squadron motto-“Always The Best.”
This air show is a tribute to India’s aviation excellence, inspiring the youth and igniting a deep sense of patriotism. The event is free of cost and all residents of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, especially children, are cordially invited to witness this thrilling spectacle.
As SKAT takes to the skies, the public is requested to maintain cleanliness at the venue to prevent bird hazards, ensuring a safe and mesmerizing performance. Food vendors and visitors are urged to dispose of waste responsibly to minimize bird activity in the area. Your cooperation is essential in ensuring a safe and thrilling spectacle as the daredevils of the IAF dazzle the skies.
