Sri Vijaya Puram, Mar 07: On the eve of International Women’s Day, Andaman Mahila Mandal, in collaboration with Nehru Yuva Kendra, Sri Vijaya Puram, organized a grand celebration at the Andaman Mahila Mandal premises.
Swami Suddhanand Saraswatiji of Chinmaya Mission, Sri Vijaya Puram, graced the event as the Chief Guest. In his inspiring address, he spoke in depth about women’s empowerment, highlighting the remarkable contributions of Rani Laxmi Bai, Sunita Williams, Kalpana Chawla, and other great women who have shaped history through their courage and dedication.
Mr. Rajeshwar Lall, Assistant Secretary (GA), attended the event as the Guest of Honour. He spoke about various welfare initiatives for women and emphasized the importance of education, skill development, and equal opportunities. He also distributed mementos to the winners of the sports competitions and rangoli contest organized as part of the celebrations.
Mrs. Sarsamma Prabhakaran, former counselor of Sri Vijaya Puram, addressed the gathering, focusing on women’s development and the need for continuous efforts toward gender equality. Mrs. Bithika Roy, Senior Teacher, highlighted the contributions of women in society, emphasizing the role of education in empowering women.
Mr. Gorakhnath Patil, President of Maharashtra Mandal, and Mr. Arvind Kumar Patil, Secretary of Maharashtra Mandal, also shared their thoughts on the importance of women’s participation in all spheres of life.
The event was graced by several executive members of Andaman Mahila Mandal, including Mrs. Hema Biswas, Mrs. Bithika Roy, Mrs. Zeenat Bibi, Miss Mala Barua, Mrs. Shyamala, Miss Shyama, and Miss Rajeswari.
As a mark of respect and appreciation, senior women of the community, including Mrs. Rukmani Patil, Mrs. Sarsamma Prabhakaran, and Mrs. Sumitra Patil, were honored with bouquets and shawls for their invaluable contributions.
Dr. Sunita Patil coordinated the program, ensuring a smooth and engaging event. Mr. Gopal Ch Biswas from Nehru Yuva Kendra welcomed the gathering and recited a poem on “Nari Ka Samman,” emphasizing the importance of recognizing women’s contributions. He also briefed the audience about the significance of the day and proposed the vote of thanks.
The celebration concluded with a strong message of unity, empowerment, and commitment to women’s rights and equality.
