Sri Vijaya Puram, Mar 06: The three-day Chess in Schools (CiS) Programme, an initiative of the Department of Education, A&N Administration, concluded successfully today with a Rapid Chess Tournament for the 2nd-year trainees of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, District Institute of Education & Training (DIET), Garacharma.
The tournament commenced with Mr. J. D. Pushparaj, Principal, GSSS Bathubasti, making the ceremonial first move on the top board against A. Anisha, a second-year trainee. Addressing the gathering, the Principal emphasized the significance of the Chess in Schools initiative and commended the Education Department for promoting chess as an educational tool.
A total of 60 second-year trainees participated in the tournament with great enthusiasm. Avinash Toppo remained unbeaten and secured first place, followed by A. Anisha in second place. Akshay Kumar Roy claimed third place, while Kiran and Bhumika Sarkar finished in fourth and fifth places, respectively. The winners were honoured with trophies.
The closing ceremony was graced by Mr. Mohd. Irshad Ahmed, Assistant Director (PE/Sports), Department of Education and Mr. Biswanath Sen, Assistant Director (Sports), Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, A&N Administration, who distributed the trophies to the winners.
