Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb 28: In accordance with the directive of the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, mandating quarterly mock drills across all departments, the Directorate of Disaster Management conducted mock drills in the Directorate of Shipping Services (DSS) and the Port Management Board (PMB), A&N Administration, on 28.02.2025. The objective was to assess their preparedness in responding to earthquakes and tsunamis.
The drill commenced at 1100 hrs. with active participation from all staff and officials of both departments. Real-time simulations of earthquake and tsunami scenarios were executed to test response mechanisms. The teams effectively communicated with the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), District Emergency Operation Centre (DEOC – S/A), Fire, Police, Electricity, NDRF, Transport, and Health Departments to seek necessary support.
During the exercise, safe evacuation procedures were followed, search and rescue operations were carried out, and first aid was provided to injured personnel. Resource department teams coordinated with DSS and PMB to ensure the successful execution of the drill.
The drill concluded at 1200 hrs, followed by a debriefing session. Incident Commanders and observers appreciated the participation and efforts of the staff and officials. They also emphasized the importance of conducting such drills regularly to identify and address any gaps in disaster preparedness.
