Harinagar, 24 February: On 23rd February 2025, a Legal Awareness Camp was organized by the Sub-Divisional Legal Committee, North and Middle Andaman under the leadership of Shri Tarun Kumar Mandal, Honourable Chief Judicial Magistrate Mayabunder and Shri Subhojit Basu, Honourable Additional District Judge (ADJ), Mayabunder.
According to information, a Legal Awareness Camp was organized by the Sub-Divisional Legal Committee, North and Middle Andaman under the leadership of Shri Tarun Kumar Mandal, Honourable Chief Judicial Magistrate Mayabunder and Shri Subhojit Basu, Honourable Additional District Judge (ADJ), Mayabunder yesterday in Panchayat Hall of Harinagar Panchayat yesterday.
Sharing the crucial information with Andaman Sheekha Daily, Shri Manojit Halder, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat Harinagar said that the Legal Awareness Camp aimed to educate the general public about various types of legal cases and their consequences.
The event was reportedly graced by the presence of Shri Debabrata Das, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat Swadeshnagar, Shri Sankar Mondal, ZPM, Harinagar, Shri Shiju Kumar, SHO, PS Billiground, PRI members and the general public of Gram Panchayat Harinagar. Shri Manojit Halder, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat Harinagar himself witnessed the Legal Awareness Camp and reportedly tried to discern the Legal Systems from various angles, he said.
The primary objective of the program was to enhance public understanding of their legal rights, the Pradhan said. Attendees were briefed on their rights at both pre-litigation and post-litigation stages. The session emphasized the significance of resolving disputes amicably through pre-litigation measures and Lok Adalats, highlighting the advantages of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, as observed by the Pradhan. The camp reportedly witnessed active participation from 40 individuals, including representatives from the Panchayati Raj Institutions, Mr. Halder informed.
Additionally, the camp reportedly provided vital information on key legal topics, including: the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, Accident-related cases and procedures under the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) with detailed explanations to ensure the public understood the steps involved in claiming compensation, the Pradhan further said.
At the conclusion of the camp, all dignitaries reportedly expressed their gratitude to the CJM and ADJ for organizing such a beneficial event. They noted that this was reportedly the first camp of its kind where the Honourable Magistrates personally visited a Gram Panchayat to interact with the general public. The dignitaries also urged the organizers to conduct similar camps in every Gram Panchayat, acknowledging their immense value to the community, he said.
The event successfully raised awareness about key legal issues and empowered the community to approach legal matters with greater knowledge and confidence, Shri Manojit Halder further added.
