Shaheed Dweep, 24 February: In a ground-breaking initiative, GMS NEIL-5 organized an educational tour for its students from class VI to Class VIII to visit the Cellular Jail and Science Centre at Sri Vijayapuram on 22nd February 2025.
Speaking to Andaman Sheekha Daily, Smti. Pinkey Das, Pradhan, Neilkendra said that the tour reportedly marked the first of its kind for GMS NEIL-5, Shaheed Dweep, showcasing the successful collaboration between the school, the community, and the Panchayat of Neilkendra. Both students and parents were eagerly looking forward to this unique opportunity. On the previous day of the tour, Pradhan Neilkendra visited the school and distributed caps to all students, ensuring their comfort and enjoyment throughout the tour, she said.
The students embarked on a historical journey at the Cellular Jail, a national memorial symbolizing the sacrifices of freedom fighters during British rule. They explored various sections, including the cells, the gallows, the controlling tower, and the work areas where prisoners were punished. The museum inside the jail offered a closer look at historical artefacts and stories of the freedom fighters struggles. The visit concluded with a heartfelt performance of the patriotic song “Aye Mere Watan ke Logo” by the students, dedicated to the freedom fighters, the Pradhan said.
At the Flag Point, students reportedly paid their respects to the freedom fighters and were inspired by the sight of the enormous national flag flaring high in the sky. This moment ignited a deep sense of patriotism and love for the nation among the students, Smti. Das informed.
The next destination was the Science Centre, where students delved into the world of scientific exploration. They interacted with various exhibits and models, fostering a scientific temperament. The highlight of this visit was reportedly the students’ first experience of a 3D show and a bubble show, which left them in awe and wonder, she narrated.
Students were pleasantly surprised to see Shri Suresh Kumar, Deputy Director (Pig), Education Department at the science centre who reportedly arrived there to meet the students of far flung areas on the request of the headmaster, GMS NEIL-5, the Pradhan said. He encouraged them to embrace learning through understanding rather than rote memorization and also appreciated the school’s efforts for conducting such a memorable tour for the student, the Pradhan told ASD.
The success of this tour was reportedly attributed to the excellent coordination with the community and the unwavering support of the Neilkendra Panchayat, Mrs. Das said.
This educational tour not only enriched the students’ knowledge of history and science but also provided them with memorable experiences and a renewed sense of patriotism. The initiative reflects the dedication of GMS NEIL-5 in providing holistic and experiential learning opportunities for its students, the Pradhan, Neilkendra further added.
