
Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb 17: The Chess in Schools (CiS) Programme for primary school students under CRC GMSSS Ferrargunj of the Wimberlygunj Educational zone commenced this morning at GMSSS Ferrargunj auditorium. Mr. Vikram Singh, Director of Education, A & N Administration, inaugurated the programme with a ceremonial move against a special child, symbolizing inclusivity & the transformative power of chess. Dr. Manoharan, Deputy Education Officer, Wimberlygunj, Mrs. Poonam Kumari, in-charge GMSSS Ferrargunj and officials of the Education Department were present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, the Director of Education emphasized the numerous cognitive benefits of chess for young learners. He stated that playing chess enhances memory, improves concentration, and sharpens problem-solving skills, all of which are essential for academic success. Highlighting chess as a powerful mental workout, he urged parents and teachers to encourage children to take up the game, as it fosters critical thinking, better decision-making, and sustained focus—preparing them for a successful future.
The Chess in Schools initiative aims to introduce the game at the foundational level, equipping students with essential skills that extend beyond the chessboard.
