& N Administration in association with Industries Department organized a two day Training Program under ATMA on ‘Value Addition of Fruits & Vegetables’ on 14th & 15th February, 2025 at the premises of Zonal Industries Office, Diglipur.
During the training Mrs. Arti Singh, Assistant Director (Agri), Diglipur briefed the participants about the importance of Fruits & Vegetables in the diet being protective foods rich in vitamins & minerals. She informed in detail how value addition helps in reducing food losses, extending shelf life and enhancing nutritional value thereby increasing farm incomes and contributing to food security in addition to the diversification of products. Value addition is a process that increases the value of fruits and vegetables by improving their quality, packaging, and processing. This helps farmers/SHG members earning more money and provides consumers with more options. . She also emphasized on FSSAI Certification which is mandatory for recognition of the quality of the produce, which will also provide better marketability of the products. She advised the participants to practice value addition of fruits and vegetables and market their products under their group name after registering with FSSAI for their produce.
Ms. Bibi Afreen Nisha, IPO, Industries Department requested the participants to put into practice value addition of fruits and vegetables which are excess during the fruiting season so that the availability period is stretched out. She further added that the food processing sector offers numerous opportunities for investment, entrepreneurship, and employment which the participants can avail from the Industries Department and practice value addition in large scale.
Further Hands on training on value addition of Carambola, Ginger and Mango was given by Ms. Arshiya Rehman, Instructor under the guidance of Mr. Swapan Chandra Mallick, Pilot Plant Incharge, Industries Department Diglipur.
About 26 Members from 2 Mahila Mandal namely Sakti Bahini & Pragati Mahila Mandal and 3 SHG namely Laxmi, Bristy and Sangat SHG participated in the program.
