Port Blair, Mar 08: On 06/03/2013 at 0830 hrs. Sub Inspector Sahil Shamsuddin, SHO Nancowry along with HCT/031439 Santosh Kr. Singh, CT/091708 K. Ubneshwar Rao, PC/1600 S. Loknath Prabhu, PC/2673 P.P. Beck and PMF staff SI H.K. Baidya, HC/2234 Martin George HC/1281 Boniface, PC/2231 Sebastian during routine patrolling of Kamorta Island on board FIB Sanjeev noticed a fishing boat in suspicious condition near Olinpol Creek, Daring Harbour.
The suspicious boat was directed to stop but the boat accelerated and fled towards open sea. Daring the high sea, catastrophic waves and incessant rain the Police team chased the fleeing boat.
The fleeing boat could not match the determination of police team and pace of Fast Interceptor Boat MV Sanjeev and after a long chase of about 20 nautical miles the fleeing fishing boat was intercepted and ten Myanmarese Nationals manning the fishing boat were nabbed and on search of the GPS enabled mechanized fishing boat, huge quantity of HSD oil, all latest navigational equipments, motorized air compressor with long hosepipes for carrying out under water diving stock of ration & grocery items along with 200 Kgs of freshly harvested Sea Cucumber was recovered.
On interrogation, the Myanmar nationals could not produce any valid documents in support of their presence in India Territorial Sea and possessing the protected variety of sea cucumber. All ten Myanmarese nationals were brought to PS Nancowry under detention along with all above received articles at 1330 hrs.
Rage Officer, Kamorta examined and confirmed the suspected item to be sea Cucumber, which is protected under the Wildlife Protection Act-1972.
