Rangat, Mar 06: Names of people are sometimes funny, but it becomes a comedy when Government of India declares somebody’s father’s name as “Port Blair” all of a sudden.
Believe it or not this happened at Rangat, where one resident of Rangat suddenly found that Government of India has changed his father’s name overnight from ‘Ravindra Nath Rai’ to ‘Port Blair’.
According to the resident of Rangat, he recently received his Resident Identity Card issued by Government of India, in which he spotted this blunder. Not only this, the Government of India has changed his name too, in the place of him name ‘Prem Kumar Rai’ the authorities printed his father’s name ‘Ravindra Nath Rai’.
Angry and frustrated, Mr. Rai approached Andaman Sheekha. When he called up the Directorate of Census office of Port Blair to lodge his complaint he got, further weird and strange answers.
“They told me to remain silent for 2 or 3 years and only after that all corrections can be carried out. For that I will have to file an affidavit and fulfil many formalities. My question is why should I do these all, when this is not my fault? If they have committed a mistake, they should rectify it without troubling general public. Thank God they did not change my gender,” Rai told Andaman Sheekha.
It seems that the Prem Kumar Rai is not the only one who became victim of utter negligence of Directorate of Census. There are atleast dozens of other such cases only in Rangat area.
“They have changed the person’s identity forever and if he wants, he can roam around with the false identity of Ravindra Nath Rai, till these corrections are carried out. Those Islanders, who have such blunders in their GoI approved, ID cards, can now even vote twice or thrice,” said a prominent villager of Rangat.
One wonders that for such strange projects, when Government of India is spending crores of rupees then why those works are not carried out in a most professional manner. The Administration must intervene into this matter and ask the Directorate of Census to carry out all necessary correction at the earliest. Till that time, if readers receive their Residential Identity Card and find that their name has been changed to Lt. General Bhopinder Singh or Mr. Pranab Mukherjee, please don’t panic, everything can happen in Andamans.

Need not to make so much hue and cry. This is a common mistake while doing cut and paste job work in computer. Talk with authorities and the matter will be resolved. Andaman Sheekha is a good newspaper of islands and such SPICY news should be discouraged.
