organized an online mode awareness session on Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act 2013
Dr. Nitin Shakya, Director (SW), emphasized to create awareness among the women employees regarding various provisions of the POSH Act for the safety and security of working women.
Smti. Meenal Rajan, Case Worker, OSC, briefed the participants on the objectives of the One Stop Centre scheme. The scheme provides emergency and non-emergency services under one roof to combat all forms of violence against women. Through phased counseling, the One Stop Centre offers strategies to deal with various problems and helps women establish favorable relationships with their families.
Smt. Santhi Murugesan, Central Administrator, One Stop Centre under the Directorate of Social Welfare, dwelt at length on Vishaka guidelines, which was in force before the enactment of present Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressel ) Act 2013, which indented to protect women at workplace. She elaborated on the important definitions of sexual harassment, aggrieved women, workplace and key elements of workplace, formal and informal redressal within the purview of the Act.
During the session, she also briefed about the Constitution of Internal Complaint Committee, including Presiding Officer and external member’s eligibility criteria. Further, elaborated on Redressal Mechanism of Complaint, enquiry of complaint, duties of Internal Complaints Committee and Local Complaints Committee. She highlighted that, this Act provides a secure encouraging work place that uphold women’s entitlement to equal opportunity and status of work.
