Port Blair, July 09: IGNOU RC Port Blair in collaboration with “Cyber Surakshit Vibhag” of Cyber Crime Police, Andaman & Nicobar Islands organized an awareness programme on 09th July 2024 for staffs and students at IGNOU Regional Centre`s conference room at 03:00 PM. Dr Sudarshan Raja, Assistant Regional Director introduced about the awareness program. Regional Director Prof. (Dr.) Sunil Jacob has welcomed the Cybercrime and Anti-Narcotics officials for sparing time to educate staff and students about cyber fraud and how to save oneself and others from these frauds. Sub Inspector, Department of Cyber Crime Deveshraj Singh has explained about various incidents of cyber fraud for example fake bank loan offers, fake work from home job offers, false police case fraud, fake buying-selling apps/platforms, fake income tax return offer etc. He informed the audience that one can stop these fake number/ spam by reporting on helpline number 1930 and report the number on “Chakshu Portal” at Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for further investigation. Another official of Andaman Anti-Narcotic Department Sanjay Kumar explained about NDPS Act and its provisions. This act prohibits a person from the production/manufacturing/cultivation, possession, sale, purchasing, transport, storage, and/or consumption of any narcotic drug or psychotropic substance. He also advised parents to keep eye on their kids and their daily routine. Assistant Regional Director, Dr Uday Kumar has concurred with the thought of officials and emphasized that greed is the root of all evil and suggested that your digital safety is in your hand. In the end of the program, he expressed his gratitude to officials from “Cyber Surakshit Vibhag” and Anti-Narcotics Department for collaboration with IGNOU.
