Port Blair, Jun 19: In commemoration of World Sickle Cell Anemia Day (19 June), the Composite Regional Centre (CRC) A&N Islands in hands with Pillar Health Centre and Ration Rasheed Foundation organized a significant blood donation camp at the Pillar Health Centre. This event aimed to enhance public awareness about sickle cell anemia and its challenges, while underscoring the crucial need for blood donations to support those affected by this genetic disorder.
The camp was officially opened by Mrs. Sumithamol, Director of CRC A&N Islands. In his speech, she highlighted the importance of community support in combating sickle cell anemia and thanked the volunteers and donors for their participation. She stressed that regular blood donations are essential in managing the disease and improving patient’s lives.
A proficient teamnursingsuperintendentof medical professionals including Sr.S.Scolastica, Nursing superintendent and Sr.Jessie, Administrative Officer from Pillar Health Centre conducted the blood collection process, ensuring it was safe and efficient. Donors underwent preliminary health checks to confirm eligibility, and detailed information was provided on the significance of blood donation.To respect the contributions of the blood donors, Mr. Abdul Rasheed, Director, Ration Rasheed Foundation sponsored refreshments for the donors.
The event garnered overwhelming support, with over 20 donors from various backgrounds, including local residents, healthcare providers, and members of social organizations. This turnout demonstrated the community’s dedication to aiding individuals living with sickle cell anemia.
