Port Blair, Oct 30: Swaraj Dweep, a prominent Island in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, is grappling with a significant issue that’s impacting both tourists and locals alike. The road to the Kala Pathar area, which houses three resorts, has been in deplorable condition for over a year and a half, souring the experience of visitors.
Mr. Ajith Kumar Roy, the Pradhan of Govind Nagar Panchayat on Swaraj Dweep, informed Andaman Sheekha Daily that although a tender process for the construction and repair of the road was initiated in January 2023 with an estimated cost of 10 Lakhs, and finalised in April 2023, the work could not start even today due to the unavailability of quarry materials.
“The delay in road repair is causing considerable distress to the general public. The poor condition of not only the Kala Pathar Road but also Krishna Nagar Road and Katai area Road is proving to be a severe inconvenience,” he said.
The people of Swaraj Dweep are urging the administration to address this issue urgently to resolve the situation at the earliest, hoping to restore the island’s appeal for both visitors and residents.
