Port Blair, Oct 06: A disturbing incident of violence unfolded in the North and Middle Andaman region on Wednesday, October 4th, as a land dispute within a family escalated, leaving one person severely injured.
According to local sources, a 49-year-old woman, a resident of Austin 2 in North and Middle Andaman, was brutally attacked by a man identified as Mr. Ravi Banick, aged 41 and son of Mr. Mohan Banick. The victim sustained grievous injuries to her head and left side of the neck during the shocking assault. The motive behind the attack is believed to be a longstanding family land dispute.
The injured woman was promptly rushed for medical treatment and admitted to RP Hospital, where she is currently receiving care for her injuries.
As news of the incident reached the public, local villagers wasted no time in alerting the Mayabunder Police Station. Inspector Abdul Arif, the Station House Officer (SHO) of PS Mayabunder, swiftly assembled a team comprising Sub Inspector Dinesh Meena, Police Constables B. Dilleswar Rao and Bal Raju, LPC Tara Uraon, and Driver Ranjit. Despite the remote location of the incident, approximately 20 kilometers from the police station, the team’s timely arrival played a crucial role in averting a potential tragedy.
Following this intervention, the Mayabunder Police team shared the information with the Kalighat Police Station, as the incident had occurred within its jurisdiction. Sub Inspector Shilpi Singha, the SHO of PS Kalighat, along with Head Constable Sazi and Police Constable Bala, responded promptly. The matter was then officially handed over to the Kalighat Police, who subsequently arrested the accused perpetrator and recovered the weapon used in the attack from the scene. Later police registered a case of attempted murder against the accused individual.
