Port Blair, Oct 05: In a major crackdown against illegal logging, officials from the Forest Department, operating under the Mannarghat range, successfully conducted a raid in the Lamba Pahad jungle. The team managed to confiscate approximately 50 log pieces, amounting to around 01 cubic meters, concealed within the dense woods.
This recent operation closely follows another significant raid executed on the night of 03rd October. Acting on credible intelligence, the Forest Department unearthed a substantial quantity of saw timber belonging to category three within the Mannarghat range’s jungle precincts.
Both these decisive operations were executed under the vigilant oversight of Ashok Kumar Paul, the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Wimberlygunj. Illegal logging, a rampant issue in various regions, inflicts grave environmental consequences, including rampant deforestation, devastating habitat destruction, and an alarming loss of biodiversity.
