Port Blair, Sep 21: Mr. R Alager Swamy, Zilla Parishad Member, Baratang Island called on the Director, State Transport Service, A&N Administration on 19th September 2022 at his office and put forward two major demands like restarting the license test in Baratang and providing conductor in each long ATR route bus.
Mr. R Alager Swamy stated that before the Covid Pandemic the license test was conducted in Baratang but after the lockdown, the service has not been resumed. The applicants have to travel to Kadamtala for the license test and other paperworks.
Secondly, he mentioned the non-availability of conductors in all STS buses in the ATR Route. He pointed out that in absence of a conductor on each long route bus, the commuters are facing various problems such as the vacant seat cannot be given to any commuter and during the getting in and out of vehicle ferry vessels many accidents have occurred in the absence of the bus conductor.
The Director, State Transport Service considered both the demands with utter seriousness and assured that immediately new recruitment of conductors will be done and existing conductors will also be sent in the ATR route. As for the license test, the Director assured that the test will be soon organised in Baratang Island as well.
