Port Blair, Jun 05: The President of Andaman & Nicobar VidyutShramikSangh has requested Lt. Governor, A&N Islands regarding the fixation of Air fares for the Islanders.
In a letter addressed to Lt. Governor, A&N Islands, Mr. Peddi Raju, State President, ANVSS mentioned that to travel from A&N Islands to Mainland India, only two modes of transportation are available i.e., either by Ship or by Air Travel. So as most of the inhabitants of these Islands belong to middle-income groups and face difficulties in purchasing expensive tickets.
He further stated that the ticket prices touch more than Rs. 15000/- in peak tourist season and summer vacations.
He also mentioned that very often Islander has to proceed for Medical Treatment to the mainland on Emergency due to lack of health care facilities available in these Islands and for procuring air tickets one has to spend more for air travel which can go to Rs. 30000/- sometimes.
Therefore, Mr. Peddi Raju requested Lt. Governor, A&N Islands to consider the grievances and fix the maximum fare of air ticket from Port Blair to Vishakapatnam / Hyderabad / Chennai / Kolkata and Bangalore at a nominal rate of Rs. 5,000/- per head for the Islanders.
