Port Blair, May 13: ICGS Rajdhwaj undertook medical evacuation of 01 injured crew from MV Dorra, off Campbell Bay on the night of 09th May 2022.
The vessel was underway from Onsan, South Korea to Khor Fakkan, United Arab Emirates. During the passage whilst the ship was off Indira Point, Junior Engineer Ziyad Ahmed S Alghamdi, a Saudi national suffered from severe burn injuries during the incineration of garbage onboard.
The vessel contacted the Indian Coast Guard Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre (Port Blair) for assistance. HQ ANC immediately launched ICGS Rajdhwaj to undertake medical evacuation.
The ship proceeded with the medical team embarked from ICG Dist. HQ, Campbell Bay and evacuated the injured crew, despite rough weather conditions. The patient was taken to the nearest port Campbell Bay, wherein he was admitted to the Primary Health Centre for initial treatment.
On 10th May 2022, the patient was further airlifted by ICG aircraft from Campbell Bay and brought to Port Blair for specialist treatment. The swift and coordinated operation was undertaken by Indian Coast Guard assets ensured one more life was saved in Indian waters, reiterating the Indian Coast Guard motto of ‘VayamRakshamah – We Protect’.
