Unprofessional road patch-up work at New Pahargaon continues

Port Blair, Feb 01: Since last nearly two years residents of Pahargaon have been demanding repair of the INS UTKROSH to PS Pahargaon road of New Pahargaon area, which is in horrible shape since a long time and has already led to many minor road accidents in recent past. The villagers are also demanding surprise inspection of the road by the Lt. Governor or the Chief Secretary but till now nobody ever visited the village to listen to the grievances of general public.
Tomorrow, the Lt. Governor is going to Birdline Village to inaugurate newly constructed water treatment plant and villagers of New Pahargaon are hoping that the Lt. Governor will bring out atleast five minutes from his busy schedule to inspect the INS UTKROSH to PS Pahargaon road, which is a glaring example of how money is siphoned off in road construction and later repairing works.
Due to poor road construction work, in the said road stretch, the top layers have gone missing in several places. There are atleast 200 potholes on the said road, which make driving almost impossible. Instead of repairing the road properly the authorities are filling the large crater size potholes with stones and often with loose earth.
Infact this morning some of the large potholes have been covered by authorities with stones and loose earth, which were later washed away by today’s rain. Sources said that for every such repair work the authorities are claiming money from government but actually nothing is happening in on the ground.
Moreover, on the said road stretch atleast seven street lights are not working making it totally impossible for people to cross the road at night.
When Andaman Sheekha investigated into the matter it was learnt that last year tender notice for re-construction of the said road was published by the PBMC but as settlement could not be made on share of booty the work was not awarded.
Now angry villagers have decided to conduct a road blockage probably on 13 February, 2012 to demand immediate repair of the road. Hopefully before the road blockage the Lt. Governor will visit the village and direct concerned authorities to repair the said road immediately.
