Port Blair, Jan 31: The PHC Hutbay, which is catering to a large number of public in the area, is presently functioning with only one Doctor, putting tremendous pressure on the health care system of the Island. Talking to Andaman Sheekha some grassroot leaders have expressed serious concerns over this issue and said that they fear that during this third wave, running a PHC with only one Doctor can be dangerous for the Islanders as in case of large number of COVID-19 cases, the health care system in the Island will be overwhelmed in no time.
Not only this, as there is only one Doctor in the PHC, the Doctor has to work 24X7 without any kind of leave.
When Andaman Sheekha contacted Dr. Munni Singhania, the Director of DHS, she said that the Department is aware of the problem. “A male Doctor has been appointed and within a week the doctor will reach PHC Hutbay,” she assured. Once the doctor reaches PHC Hutbay, there won’t be any problem, the DHS added.
