Port Blair, Jan 28: AMSO is all set to observe the Centenary Celebrations of Mopla history in the Islands with its grand 100th year observance starting from 6th March, 2022. The year shall commemorate the 100 years of Mopla struggle, resilience, commitment, grit and determination for development of its people.
The AMSO has officially launched the 100 year celebration logo portraying the vitalities of the community. It showcases the Mopla Belt which symbolizes grit and determination of its members. The logo also symbolizes the inception of the Moplas from the National Memorial – Cellular Jail. The first batch of Mopla Freedom Fighters landed at Chatham Island on 6th March, 1922 via SS Maharaja ship. The batch of Prisoners were imprisoned in the Cellular Jail. The logo also portrays the journey of Andaman Moplas through the 100 years of its existence. Initially, majority of them were primarily agriculturist. Over the time, the focus has also been laid to education and presently the members have outgrown and holds key positions across the globe. The theme for the 100 Year Celebration is *”Existence with Peace and Pride”.*
