Port Blair, Jan 28: The District Congress Committee President Mr. V.K Abdul Aziz has written a letter to the Director of Shipping Services on Friday and highlighted him about the problems being faced by the peoples of Bambooflat, Wimberlygunj, Hope Town, Stewartgunj, Shore Point, Panighat, Mannarghat, Wright Myo, Shoal Bay and nearby areas.
In a letter addressed to the DSS, Mr. Aziz mentioned that a large population of the South Andaman region resides in these areas and for them vehicle ferries and Ferry Boats are the cheapest and easiest means of transportation to reach Port Blair city with their vehicles for various purposes like office works, education, medical treatment etc.
He mentioned that due to inadequate vehicle ferries and ferry boats, the commuters have to wait at Jetty for hours, which causes a huge inconvenience to them.
Mr. Aziz pointed out that the peoples of Bambooflat, Wimberlygunj, Hope Town, Stewartgunj, Shore Point, Panighat, Mannarghat, Wright Myo, Shoal Bay and nearby areas have to take longer road-route to reach Port Blair, which is time consuming, expensive as well as disturbing, because of poor condition of roads.
Considering all these problems, he requested the DSS to provide 3 additional vehicle ferries and ferry boats in morning and evening between Chatham and Bambooflat so that commuters can avail the ferry.
Mr. Aziz has also requested the DSS to repair all the vehicle ferries, which are non-operational from a long time for minor faults, so that these vehicle ferries can remain stand-by for emergency deployment.
