Unlike other destinations, these islands have peculiar problems, ground realities and of all, limited bearing capacity. However, these islands are very rich with a best combination of the 5 Elements of nature in pure form(the sun, water, air, earth and the sky) and at the same time, are also native for several secrets of the nature, all in one destination. Conducting tourism activities scientifically first by bring awareness among local service providers and simultaneously educating tourists about the nature viz hills, valleys, forest, wild life, beaches and marine life, the ingenious people in the forests, the historical importance and the strong social and community set up of people settled in the islands living harmoniously for the past 165 years is the main objective and purpose of the book “Andamanology”
Andaman & Nicobar islands are like a ‘laboratory” the islanders are ‘scientists” there should be continuous and constant research on how to promote tourism here without any harm to fragile eco system and perfect environmental balances. The book will help a visiting tourist as a guide, and at the same time educate the tourist with scientific reasons and explanation as to why the nature, eco-system should not be disturbed, and how and why the existence of these islands have importance of different reasons including weather and security. It is our aim that after reading the contents or after visiting Andaman, one should get a feeling of learning a new science ‘Andamanology’ like a key for sustainable tourism.
The book will be ready by end of this year, we are thankful to the management of Daily News paper Andaman Sheekha and those leading institutions who have extended encouragement and full support to us in this matter, said a communication from IISD.
