Sri Vijaya Puram, March 10: The residents of Polytechnic to Marine Colony and Navashakti Housing Cooperative Society are facing severe hardships due to the deplorable condition of roads in their area. Despite being home to over 50 residential plots, where property owners collectively contribute lakhs of rupees annually in taxes, the roads have not been maintained for over a decade, leading to frequent accidents.
Locals report that the roads have been left neglected for the past 12 years, making daily commutes hazardous. The deteriorating roads, filled with potholes and uneven surfaces, have resulted in multiple accidents, raising serious concerns about public safety. Additionally, garbage dumping on the main roads by the public has worsened the situation, further polluting the locality.
Another major concern is the complete absence of a drainage system in Navasakthi Housing Society. The lack of proper drainage has led to waterlogging issues, especially during the monsoon season, causing inconvenience to residents. Despite repeated complaints to the Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council, no concrete action has been taken to address these pressing issues.
Local residents are now demanding immediate intervention from municipal authorities to repair the roads, install a proper drainage system, and enforce waste management regulations. They urge the concerned officials to act swiftly before the situation worsens further.

Mayabunder Residents to Get New Bus Service to DC Office Lucknow via Dr. R.P. Hospital

Mayabunder, March 10: In a significant move to improve public transportation, a new bus service is set to be introduced from Mayabunder to the DC Office Lucknow via Dr. R.P. Hospital. This development comes following a meeting between Mr. Abdul Siddique, Ex-Pramukh of Mayabunder, and transport officials, including the Deputy Director of Transport, A&N Administration, and Mr. S. Bepari, Assistant Engineer, STS Dept, N&M Andaman.
The proposed bus service aims to provide a reliable and affordable mode of transportation for residents of Mayabunder and nearby areas. Many government employees and economically disadvantaged individuals face difficulties commuting to government offices and essential facilities. The introduction of this bus route will significantly ease their burden, ensuring better connectivity for daily travel.
Expressing gratitude to the transport officials for their support, Mr. Abdul Siddique emphasized that the service should operate without any time constraints, focusing solely on public convenience. He is optimistic that the initiative will soon be implemented, benefiting both government employees and the general public. Residents of Mayabunder have welcomed the decision and eagerly await the commencement of the new bus service, which promises to enhance accessibility and ease of travel in the region.
Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team Set to Dazzle Sri Vijayapuram Skies
Sri Vijaya Puram, Mar 10: Sri Vijayapuram skies are set to come alive as the Indian Air Force’s elite Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team (SKAT) performs a spectacular air show over Marina Park on 12-13 March 2025, from 03:30 PM to 04:15 PM on both days. Known as the “Ambassadors of the IAF”, SKAT will enthrall spectators with breathtaking manoeuvres, precision flying and a stunning display of aerial prowess.
Formed in 1996, SKAT has captivated audiences with 700+ performances across India and international air shows in China, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, Singapore and the UAE. Operating under the motto “Sadaiva Sarvottam” (Always the Best) the team showcases the highest standards of professionalism, skill and dedication.
Flying in their iconic red-and-white Hawk Mk-132 jets, the team will perform loops, barrel rolls, inverted flying, and their signature DNA manoeuvre. The team, led by Group Captain Ajay Dasarathi, with Group Captain Sidhesh Kartik as Deputy Leader, is the only nine-aircraft aerobatic team in Asia. The aircraft of the team fly in remarkably close formation, maintaining a separation of less than five meters between them.
The other members of the team include Wing Commanders Rajesh Kajla, Arjun Patel, Kuldeep Hooda and Allen George, along with Squadron Leaders Jasdeep Singh, Himkhush Chandel, Ankit Vashisth, Vishnu, Diwakar Sharma, Gaurav Patel, Edward Prince and Lalit Verma. The technical team, led by Wing Commander Abhimanyu Tyadi, is supported by Squadron Leader Sandeep Dhayal and Flight Lieutenant Manil Sharma. The team’s commentator and administrator is Flight Lieutenant Kanwal Sandhu, while Squadron Leader Sudharshan serves as the medical officer.
An indigenous innovation has enhanced the team’s visual appeal-smoke pods capable of producing the three colours of the national flag, developed at an IAF base 11 Base Repair Depot. This modification adds a patriotic dimension to their already impressive repertoire. While SKAT has enthralled audiences at airshows and official events, its performance at Aero India 2025 and recently at Bangkok, Thailand celebrating the 88th anniversary of the Royal Thai Airforce remain unforgettable and globally appreciated.
Today, SKAT stands among the best nine-aircraft display teams in the world-the only one of its kind in Asia. Their performances, held from September to March, feature 35-40 displays, showcasing graceful composite formations and heart-stopping synchro manoeuvres. Teamwork, professionalism, and unwavering trust in each other’s abilities define SKAT as they strive to live up to their squadron motto-“Always The Best.”

Seminar on “Andaman: The Land of Struggle and Sacrifice” Commemorates Arrival of First Batch of Freedom Fighters in 1858
Sri Vijaya Puram, Mar 10: In commemoration of arrival of first batch of freedom fighters in 1858 , Chinmaya Mission in association with History department of JNRM organised a Seminar yesterday on “Andaman: The land of Struggle and Sacrifice” at Mission auditorium. The Seminar was inaugurated by Dr Anil Agrawal, IAS Secretary A & N administration in the presence of Mr. Gauri Shankar pandy, Guest of Honour and other invited dignitaries.
Speaking on this occasion Chief Guest Dr Anil Agrawal IAS said that the younger generation should be made aware about the sacrifice of our freedom fighters and their contribution in freedom movement.

The resident Acharya of Chinmaya Mission Swami Shuddhananda Saraswati explained the purpose of Seminar.
After the inauguration two technical sessions were conducted in which Prominent citizens including Dr Prem kishan, Dr Rohinder Lall, Mr. Manohar Singh, Dr RVR Murthy, HOD, History briefed the audience about the history of Islands and different incidents happened during British and Japanese Period. Students from the history department of JNRM Ms Awantika Khakha, Ms Nikita Tirkey, Ms Saraswati presented papers on different topics. Dr Anjusha Sharda also spoke. A&N Traffic Police Advise for Installation of Dash Cameras in Four-Wheelers for Enhanced Road Safety
Sri Vijaya Puram, Mar 10: In a significant move to enhance road safety and ensure accountability on the roads, the Andaman & Nicobar Traffic Police advises all four-wheeler owners to install dash cameras in their vehicles. This initiative aims to improve road discipline, assist in accident investigations and provide crucial evidence in case of disputes or violations.
Dash cameras serve as an unbiased eyewitness, recording real-time footage that can help law enforcement agencies identify reckless driving, hit-and-run incidents and other traffic-related offenses. The recorded footage can also be used for insurance claims, legal proceedings and improving overall road safety compliance.
All vehicle owners, especially those operating commercial and passenger vehicles are strongly encouraged to equip their vehicles with dash cameras at the earliest. The Traffic Police will also conduct awareness drives and awareness sessions to promote the adoption of this safety measure.
The A&N Traffic Police remains committed to ensuring safer roads for all. All vehicle owners to support this initiative and contribute to a disciplined and accident-free driving environment.
Registration and Video Submission Deadline Extends for Viksit Bharat – Youth Parliament 2025; More Engagement Strategies Announced
Sri Vijaya Puram, Mar 10: The Last date for registration and uploading of one-minute video has been extended to 16th March, 2025, according to the Chairman and Principal Law College Dr. P V N Sarma, Viksit Bharat – Youth Parliament 2025. The students should take it up as their program and voice their opinion regarding the concept of Viksit Bharat, he said. While thanking the students for their overwhelming response, he appealed to take it to all the students.
To encourage more participation and to ensure hassle-free uploading of videos the Government of India took this decision, said the Deputy Director, Nehru Yuva Kendra Mr. Sukhranjan Biswas in a meeting held with NSS Programme officers of Sri Vijaya Puram College here on Monday at Andaman Law College. A team of functionaries of NYK and Programme Officers of JNRM, ANCOL, DBRAIT, Government ITI Dollygunj, TGCE and ALC reviewed the programme.
To speed up the momentum, a five-member student team from each college were trained by Mr. Harish Kumar, State Coordinator, Viksit Bharat. Student teams from JNRM, ANCOL, DBRAIT, Government ITI, TGCE and ALC participated in the session, where in Mr. Santosh Kumar trained them how to reach the students. The discussion focused on involving more student youth through various strategies. Banners were displayed in all the colleges, skits, street plays were carried out. Social media campaign is in progress eliciting more participation. Youth should take this program with patriotic zeal to keep the legacy of Andaman during the freedom struggle, said the speakers. While indicating some ideas, Viksit Bharat includes empowerment of youth, a corruption free India, Green India, A self-reliant India, Digital India, Poverty-free India etc.
Andaman & Nicobar Football Association Hosts Women’s Football Match on International Women’s Day”
Sri Vijaya Puram, Mar 10: Sports authority of India Football Girls Crowned Champions and Won Fair Play Award for Exemplary Sportsmanship. The Andaman & Nicobar Football Association celebrated International Women’s Day with an exhilarating women’s football match, promoting women’s empowerment and sportsmanship.
The event witnessed remarkable enthusiasm as teams showcased their talent, determination, and team spirit. Sports Authority of India (Football Girls) emerged as the winners of the tournament, displaying an outstanding performance that won them not just the championship but also the admiration of the crowd. Their discipline and fair play on the field earned them the prestigious Fair Play Award, highlighting their commitment to sportsmanship and ethical gameplay. All the athletes were trained by Mohd Sadique, SAI coach.
The event was a testament to the growing prominence of women’s football in the region, encouraging young female athletes to pursue the sport with passion. The Andaman & Nicobar Football Association expressed its commitment to organizing more such events to provide a platform for women in sports.
Officials, coaches, and spectators praised the players for their dedication and competitive spirit. The association also extended its gratitude to all participants, coaches, and supporters for making the event a resounding success.
ICAR-KVK N&M Andaman Celebrates International Women’s Day, 2025
Sri Vijaya Puram, Mar 10: ICAR- KVK, North and Middle Andaman, celebrated International Women’s Day on 8th March 2025 with great enthusiasm, aligning with this year’s theme: “For All Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.” The event aimed to recognize and honour the contributions of women in agriculture, rural development, and self-reliance while emphasizing the importance of gender equality and empowerment.
Dr. V. Damodaran, Senior Scientist & Head, ICAR-KVK N&M Andaman, inaugurated the program, highlighting the significant role of women in shaping the agricultural landscape and ensuring food security. He emphasized the importance of skill development, entrepreneurship, and policy support to uplift women in agriculture and allied sectors.
The event featured interactive sessions and knowledge-sharing discussions led by subject matter specialists from KVK. Mr. Rakesh Dawar (SMS Agronomy) discussed sustainable farming practices for women farmers, while Mr. Subam Debroy (SMS Aquaculture) spoke on women’s role in fisheries and integrated farming systems. Mr. Yatharth Sharma (SMS Home Science) conducted a session on value addition, food processing, and nutritional security for women and children. Er. Manoj Kumar (SMS Agricultural Engineering) highlighted the importance of farm mechanization and efficient post-harvest technologies to reduce women’s drudgery in agriculture, emphasizing the need for gender-friendly tools and machinery. Successful women entrepreneurs and SHG members shared their inspiring stories of overcoming challenges and achieving economic independence through agri-based enterprises.
The program witnessed active participation from farm women, SHGs and rural entrepreneurs. The program was organized under the overall guidance of Dr. Eaknath B. Chakurkar, Director, ICAR-CIARI, Sri Vijayapuram. About 32 women and men participated in the event.
ICAR-KVK, SA and Department of Agriculture Organize Training on Beekeeping for Beginners
Sri Vijaya Puram, Mar 10: A five day training program on “Apiculture for Beginners” was conducted at ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Sippighat, South Andaman, from March 6 to March 10, 2025. The program was organized by the CSIR-National Botanical Research Institute (CSIR-NBRI), Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, in collaboration with Department of Agriculture, Andaman and Nicobar Administration, Port Blair and ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR-CIARI), Port Blair. The training was funded by CSIR-NBRI under the CSIR- Floriculture Mission (phase –II). A total of 32 farmers nominated by the Department of Agriculture and 11 self-motivated farmers from three blocks of South Andaman participated in this program. The inaugural session was graced by Dr. E. B. Chakurkar, Director, ICAR-CIARI, as the Chief Guest. He emphasized the importance of increasing honey production in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The training covered various aspects of beekeeping, including Introduction to Apiculture – Types of honeybees, bee rearing techniques, and colony management by Dr. Y. Ramakrishna (Principal Scientist & Head, KVK). Importance of Bee Flora in Apiculture – A lecture by Ms. Sushma (Subject Matter Specialist, Horticulture). Pest and Disease Management in Beekeeping – Session by Mr. Mohit (Subject Matter Specialist, Plant Protection). Practical Demonstration – Handling of bee boxes and hive management by Mr. Thanmai Paul (Farm Manager, KVK). The valedictory session, held on March 10, 2025, was graced by Smt. Pallavi Sarkar, IAS, (Secretary of Agriculture, Andaman and Nicobar Administration) as the Chief Guest, along with Dr. Ajit Kumar Shasany (Director, CSIR-NBRI, Lucknow) and Dr. E. B. Chakurkar (Director, ICAR-CIARI). A tri-partite MOU between Department of Agriculture, Andaman and Nicobar Administration, Port Blair and ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR-CIARI), Port Blair and CSIR-National Botanical Research Institute (CSIR-NBRI), Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh was also signed and exchanged to promote floriculture activities in the bay islands. During the interactive session, farmer trainees discussed key challenges in beekeeping, such as: Lack of a proper marketplace for honey products, Limited availability of beekeeping tools, Scarcity of timber for bee box preparation, Difficulty in sourcing bee colonies on the island, inter islnads transportation of colonies, etc. To support the farmers, 200 bee colonies were distributed among the nominated participants during the closing ceremony. The program was coordinated by Dr. Y. Ramakrishna (Principal Scientist & Head, KVK) and Dr. Soumit Kumar Behera (Senior Principal Scientist, CSIR-NBRI, Lucknow). The event concluded with remarks by Dr. Sandip Kumar Behera (Senior Scientist, CSIR-NBRI) and was moderated by Mr. Mohit (Subject Matter Specialist, KVK, South Andaman). A total of 43 trainees (28 men and 15 women) benefited from the training, which was conducted under the overall guidance of Dr. E. B. Chakurkar, Director, ICAR-CIARI. This initiative marks a significant step toward strengthening beekeeping practices in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, promoting bio-diversity, sustainable honey production, and enhancing farmers’ livelihoods.
