Campbell Bay, Feb. 26: Fishermen Gram Sangam, Campbell Bay has voiced their grievances regarding the ongoing issue with the Cold Storage facility under the Fisheries Department, Campbell Bay.
According to information, the Cold Storage facility under the Fisheries Department, Campbell Bay has not reportedly been functioning properly for the past few months. In this regard, the Mukhiya, Fishermen Gram Sangam, Campbell Bay has reportedly written a letter to the Director, Directorate of Fisheries, Sri Vijaya Puram apprising the higher authority of the problems being faced by the fishing community owing to the defunct Cold Storage facility at Campbell Bay. Both the Pradhans of Gram Panchayat Govind Nagar and Gram Panchayat Campbell Bay had reportedly informed the Director of Fisheries Department much earlier about this matter and had reportedly urged the authority to dispatch cold storage gas by the first available cargo ship, but reportedly the situation remained unresolved, the letter further read.
The Cold Storage facility under the Fisheries Department, Campbell Bay is reportedly facing critical problems including failure to produce cold storage gas, damage to the wooden platform of the ice container, and improper production of ice cubes etc. These issues are reportedly severely impacting the ability of local fishermen to preserve and sell their catch, Mukhiya, Fishermen Gram Sangam wrote in the letter. Furthermore, the Fishermen Committee of Campbell Bay has reportedly made multiple verbal requests to the Officials of the Fisheries Dept. but reportedly no action has been taken so far and thus the issues reportedly remained unresolved, the Mukhiya claimed in the letter.
Andaman Sheekha Daily, on the other hand, spoke to the Pradhan, Govin Nagar, Shri G Venkat Rao in order to know more on the matter, and the Pradhan said that the issues raised by Fishermen Gram Sangam, Campbell Bay are reportedly of genuine nature and required to be addressed much earlier to safeguard the interests of the fishing community in the area, but unfortunately, reportedly the issues of the Cold Storage facility haven’t resolved yet, he decried.
In light of the ongoing challenges, Fishermen Gram Sangam has reportedly urged the concerned Officials to repair and restore the cold storage facility on priority. However, if this situation is not reportedly addressed, the Fishermen Community will be reportedly compelled to organize a peaceful protest/dharna tomorrow i.e. 27th Feb. 2025, and if no action is reportedly taken by 11:00 a.m., then they will reportedly be left with no other option but to resort to mounting a road blockage/chakka jam, they further threatened in the letter.

GB Pant Hospital Inaugurates State-of-the-Art 128-Slice CT Scan Facility
Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb. 25: In a significant step towards enhancing medical diagnostics, a new State-of-the-Art 128-slice CT Scan facility was inaugurated at GB Pant Hospital today by the Secretary (Health), Dr. Anil Agarwal. The facility aims to provide advanced imaging services to patients, ensuring faster and more accurate diagnoses.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the Secretary (Health) emphasized the Administration’s commitment towards improving healthcare infrastructure and ensuring that cutting-edge technology is accessible to all. “This new facility will significantly reduce waiting times and enhance the quality of patient care and reflects our continuous efforts to upgrade medical services for the benefit of the community,” he said.
The 128-slice CT scanner is equipped with the latest technology to provide high-resolution images with reduced radiation exposure, making it safer for patients. It is capable of performing a wide range of diagnostic procedures, including cardiac scans, brain imaging, and whole-body scans, ensuring comprehensive care for diverse medical needs.
Dr. M.K. Saha, Medical Superintendent of GB Pant Hospital, expressed gratitude to the Administration for their support. “With this addition, GB Pant Hospital is now better equipped to handle complex diagnostic cases efficiently. The facility will not only benefit the residents of Sri Vijaya Puram but also those from other Islands too,” he noted.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Dr. Suja Antony, Director of Health Services & Director, ANIIMS, senior officials, Health Care workers, and local residents, all of whom welcomed the initiative as a much-needed development in the Island’s healthcare landscape.
59th Annual General Body Meeting of Andaman & Nicobar State Cooperative Bank held
Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb 25: The 59th Annual General Body Meeting of Andaman & Nicobar State Cooperative Bank was held on 25.02.2025 at its Conference Hall. Shri. K Subramani, Vice- Chairman, A&NSt.CB Ltd chaired the meeting. The Board of Directors, Members of PACS (Primary Agriculture Credit Societies) and various affiliated Societies and Bank officials were also present.
At the outset, K Murugan, Managing Director welcomed the delegates wholeheartedly and expressed gratitude to the dignitaries present on the dais. He also expressed gratitude to the representatives of various cooperative societies for attending the meet.
Shri. K Subramani, Vice-Chairman, A&NSt.CB Ltd in his key note address on Banking & other development, social & Govt. Policies and schemes presented the current financial parameters of the bank with respect to its financial position. He informed the General Body that there has been substantial progress and highlighted the various performance parameters of the bank before the General Body.
In his keynote address, Shri. K Subramani, Vice-Chairman of the bank expressed his gratitude to all members of PACS, Board of Directors, Bank Staff and specially the public and Administration for their support and cooperation to Cooperative Bank. The Vice-Chairman further urged all the members present on the occasion to popularise the schemes of the bank and also the schemes rendered by Govt. Of India. He stressed that the Bank has chalked out a various developmental activities including new schemes of bank.
Further, the Managing Director took up the Agenda wise points of the General Body Meeting wherein detailed discussions were held and the General Body approved and adopted the necessary resolutions.
The delegate from PACS and various other Cooperative societies including representatives of Tribal Cooperative Societies have suggested various measures for improvement like awareness programme for cashless transaction, opening of more Branches, ATMs, etc.

Prophetess Priya Ministries Celebrates World Pulses Day with Awareness Event on Nutritional Benefits
Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb 25: On February 10, 2024, the non-profit organization Prophetess Priya Ministries celebrated World Pulses Day at their office near Joggers Park. A total of ten families joined them, and they held an informative awareness session for everyone present.
The objective of this organization is to make a difference in people’s lives, empower the underprivileged, provide basic necessities of life, along with enhancing their overall well-being by making health care services easily accessible. And their motto is to serve the people of our Islands with utmost dedication and compassion.
The view behind organizing this awareness campaign was to highlight the importance of Pulses and their Nutritional Benefits for everyone especially those who find it difficult to afford or have meat for protein.
The non-profit organization emphasized the numerous fascinating benefits of pulses concerning the environment and human beings.
Family members of the households to whom this charitable organization has been distributing ration kits since April 22, 2022, participated in this awareness event.
The audience was briefed by Mr. V Vishal Rao, the NGO’s treasurer, about the dietary advantages of pulses and how their functions support our bodies.
The joint secretary, Ms. V. Vinita Rao, highlighted the nutritional and health advantages of different pulses, which everyone can include into their everyday eating habits for a healthier way of life.
In addition to a quick awareness-raising exercise facilitated by the NGO’s members, Dr. B Ajit Kumar interacted with the group and shared his expertise on this day, 4 different kinds of pulses, their benefits, and ways to replace other staples in one’s daily life with pulses as it’s more affordable.
The event was graced by the Founder and President of the NGO, Smti Priya Basu, Chief Guest Dr.B Ajit Kumar, Deputy Director Malaria,DHS and the Owner of Murgan stores Ration shop Mr C Vinoth Kumar who has been supporting this organization in providing ration kits to families , along with members of the NGO: Smti Abha John, General Secretary, Smti M G Valleria, Smti Rita , executive members.
Ms. Vinita presented the warm welcome speech, and the founder was the last to speak. She expressed her thoughts about the event and, most importantly, expressed gratitude to all of the families who had come.
Following the ceremony, a light meal consisting of dishes made with pulses was served to everyone in attendance encouraging and promoting a nutritious and healthy food habit.

Thunderstorm and Squally Weather Alert Issued for A&N Islands
Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb. 25:Thunderstorm with lightning is likely to occur at one or two places over A&N Islands on Feb. 26. Squally weather with surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph gusting to 50 kmph is very likely over Andaman Sea & A&N Islands. Sea condition is likely to be rough. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea along and off Andaman Sea & A&N Islands till Feb. 27

Fishermen Advised to Comply with Mandatory Regulations to Avoid Penalties
Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb. 25:Complaints have been received from enforcement agencies like Indian Coast Guard and Police Marine Force that fishermen are not properly complying with following mandatory provision as mentioned in the MFR, Hence, the fishermen are directed to follow the below mentioned rules before going for any fishing voyage in order to avoid any penalty or imposition of relevant rules.
As per Rule 3(r) operation of any vessel for fishing with registration under MS Act 1958 is subject to penalty provision MFR amendment Rule 2019.

2nd time – Fine of Rs. 500/- failing which, suspension of Fishing License for a period of three months or both. 3rd time – cancellation of Fishing License and confiscation of Boat. |
c) | Operation of fishing boat in non permitted areas other than protected areas and areas prohibited/ protected under Wildlife Protection Act – 1972. | 1st time – Fine of Rs. 1,000/- or suspension of Fishing License for a period of one month.
2nd time – Suspension of Fishing License for a period of six months. 3rd time – Cancellation of Fishing License and confiscation of Boat. |

Disaster Management Conducts Mock Drill at Directorate of Fisheries
Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb. 25: In accordance with the directive of Chief Secretary, A&N Administration to hold quarterly mock drills in each Department, the Directorate of Disaster Management conducted the fifth mock drill in the Directorate of Fisheries today. This drill was conducted by developing real-time earthquake and tsunami simulation scenarios to test the Department’s response to a disaster. During the drill, all officials and staff of the Fisheries Department, along with teams from resource Departments (District Administration, A&N Police, Health, Fire, NDRF and Electricity) participated.
The Department used the PA system to issue alerts and warnings to all staff. Upon receiving the alert on the earthquake and tsunami, as per the scenario of the mock drill, the staff followed the Duck, Cover & Hold procedure for earthquake safety. After two minutes, they began evacuating towards the identified safe area.
The Incident Commander of the Department deployed his teams to immediately communicate with resource Departments (SEOC, DEOC (S/A), Fire, Police, Electricity, Health, etc.) for their support and assistance. The NDRF, fire tenders and ambulance promptly arrived at the mock site for search & rescue operations and the hospitalization of the injured.
After completing all steps and activities, the Incident Commander issued an “all-clear message”, calling off the mock drill. Following this, a debriefing session was held at the Fisheries Department with all staff, officials, and resource Department representatives wherein findings and gaps observed during the mock drill were discussed. The Officers from resource Departments were requested to enhance their preparedness levels and provide basic life-saving trainings to all staff and Department teams to ensure an effective response to emergencies.
