Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan. 2: The Grand Mahakumbh Mela is scheduled to be held in Teerthraj Prayagraj, from Paush Purnima on January, 13, 2025 to Mahashivratri on February 26, 2025. Kumbh holds a special place in Indian culture, known as ‘Sarvasiddhipradaha Kumbh’-the bestower of all siddhis. This grand event intricately weaves together India’s spiritual, religious, cultural, and social traditions. UNESCO has recognized Kumbh as an ‘Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The A & N Administration is in the process of setting up the UT’s pavilion during the Mahakumbh Mela at Prayagraj. It has also been decided to encourage the participation of cultural groups from this UT. Considering the significance of the event, interested registered local cultural groups have been requested to submit their willingness to present cultural programmes during the Mahakumbh Mela in writing to the Director (Art & Culture), Cellular Jail Complex, Atlanta Point, Sri Vijaya Puram. The window for submission of willingness closes at 5 pm on 09.01.2025.

 

Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan 02: Employees Welfare Association of ICAR- Central Island Agricultural Research Institute, Sri Vijaya Puram (CARIEWA) conducted a farewell to two of its staff on December 31, 2024 at Dr. T. R. Dutta Conference Hall of the Institute. Mr. R. Dharma Rao, Skilled Supporting Staff, attained the age of superannuation while Mr. Kishore Tete, Technical Officer got transferred to the ICAR-National Institute of Secondary Agriculture, Ranchi, Jharkhand.
At the outset, Dr. Abhilash, Executive Member, CIARIEWA welcomed the Chief Guests of the event. Dr. Pooja Bohra, General Secretary, gave introduction of the Chief Guests to the house in detail. The institute employees shared their experiences and gratitude to the Chief Guests for their valuable service to the Institute and Island agriculture over the years. Dr. Jai Sunder, Chairman, CIARIEWA expressed his view and wished them for healthy, prosperous and peaceful life ahead.
The Director, ICAR-CIARI and Patron, CIARIEWA, Dr. Eaknath B. Chakurkar appreciated the contribution made by both the staff at the grass root level in building the institute. He acknowledged the role of field staff that provides the background support for conduct of various research related activities of the Institute. The Chief Guests were honored with shawl and memento as a token of love and appreciation. At the end, Mr. Shyam Prakash Narayan, Executive Member, CIARIEWA presented vote of thanks. Mr. Shyam Sundar Rao, Joint Secretary, CIARIEWA coordinated the overall conduct of the programme.

Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan 02: In exercise of the power conferred under M. V. Act 1988 (Act No. 59 of 1988) read with the Administration’s Notification No. /2008/F. No. 32-95/2008-TR dated 10th March, 2008, the District Magistrate, South Andaman hereby notifies for the information that the Air Warrior Drill Team (AWDT) shall display their Drill Performance on 02nd January 2025 to 04th January 2025 from 1600 hrs to 1630 hrs a the Marina Road.

During the period of performance the Marina Road will be closed from 1600 hrs to 1630 hrs on 02nd January 2025 to 04th January 2025.

Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan 02: In view of the extension of the Island Tourism Festival, the Directorate of Shipping Services has announced additional vehicle ferry services between Chatham and Bambooflat during night hours. This service will be available to commuters from 1^stJanuary, 2025 to 5^thJanuary, 2025.

Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan 02: Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, Member of Parliament, A & N Islands has deeply mourned the sudden demise of Mr. Basant Rao Babras, R/o RGT Road, Sri Vijaya Puram. Mr. Basant Rao Babras, an old inhabitant of the islands, passed away at the age of 84 this morning at Sri Vijaya Puram. Starting his career as a Village level worker (VLW), he rose through the ranks to hold the posts of BDO Ferrargunj, BDO Rangat and Programme Officer of the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) in its infancy under the Social Welfare Department of A&N Administration. He was keenly associated with women and child nutrition issues under the programme and steered it ably through the years. He eventually headed the Department of Social Welfare as Director before superannuation in 2000.After superannuation, he was a Member of the Juvenile Justice Board. He had a keen interest in matters of administrative law and RTI apart from being an active sportsman in his younger days.
The MP has prayed to the almighty to give strength to the bereaved family members. OM Shanti!

 

Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan 02: Under the guidance of the Employment Officer, Ms Sapna Priya, Model Career Centre, Employment Exchange conducted Career and Vocational Guidance programs for the students of class XI to XII and youth of Little Andaman from Dec.18 to 20, 2024.These initiatives aimed to empower participants with insight into various career opportunities and skill development pathways.
The vocational guidance programme was conducted at Gram Panchayat Hut Bay and career guidance at PM SHRI Govt. Sr. Sec. School R.K.Pur & Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School, Hut Bay by Mr. Dinesh Moorthy, Asst.Employment Officer. The participants were informed about emerging career opportunities, skill development courses, NCS registration and employment-oriented training programs. The sessions helped students in identifying their strengths and aligning it with their goals.
Emphasis was placed on vocational pathways for self-reliance and economic empowerment. Information about Government- supported skill development schemes were disseminated among the youth by the resource persons of Department of AH&VS, Agriculture and Fisheries.
