Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan 03: The State Child Protection Society, under the Directorate of Social Welfare, hosted a vibrant New Year celebration at the Seva Niketan Child Care Institution, bringing smiles and hope to the children in care. The Chief Guest of the program Mr. Ravinder Kumar, Director (Social Welfare), joined the festivities, cutting the New Year cake with the children and spreading cheer as they welcomed the New Year together.
Mrs. Rehaneth Begum, Program Manager (State Child Protection Society), welcomed all attendees and emphasized the importance of such gatherings for the emotional well-being of children. “Events like these play a crucial role in fostering a sense of belonging and joy among children, especially those in need of care and protection,” she stated.
Mr. A. K. Biswas, Nodal Officer (Mission Vatsalaya) Scheme, also joined the celebration, inspiring the children with his heartfelt wishes for a bright and successful future. “I encourage all of you to pursue your dreams with courage and determination,” he said, motivating the young minds to aspire for greatness.
The celebration closed with vote of thanks delivered by Mr. A.K. Chakrabarthy, In-Charge of Seva Niketan. He expressed his deep gratitude to everyone who contributed to making the event a memorable experience for the children, with special thanks to the Director of Social Welfare for his presence and support, as well as the SCPS team for their efforts.

Announces Winners of FIT India week 2024, Poster Competition for School
Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan 03: As part of the Fit India week 2024, a poster competition was conducted by Sports Authority of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports on the topic, “FIT India, Healthy India” Or, “Sports for Tribal’s, last date of submission of entries was 24th Dec’2024. In the competition there were over hundred submissions from various schools like GDMS, GMSS Mayabunder, Carmel, M.G.I.S., JNVs, N.C.S. All the submitted entries were informative and beautifully painted. The winners were selected based on originality of the ideas. The winners will get attractive cash prizes and their prizes are sent to their respective schools by post.
A Special lecture on The Changing Paradigm of our Environment by BSI
Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan 03: As a part of ‘Mission Life’ Botanical Survey of India, organized a Special lecture on “The Changing Paradigm of our Environment” in association with Scientist Unique Researchers Yare Association (SURYA), India. Dr. E. B. Chakurkar, Director ICAR- CIARI was the Chief Guest and Prof. A. K. Srivastav, Former Head, Department of Zoology, BBC, Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, India & Principal Executive of (SURYA) was the speaker of the special lecture. Addl. Director & Regional Head, Dr. Lal Singh, welcomed the gathering, and briefed about the theme of this programme with the aim to create awareness on “Natural Resources in our Daily Life” to motivate use of eco-friendly products towards sustainable life.
In the felicitation address, Dr Chakurkar emphasized upon the impact of our lifestyle on the environment and briefed about the scientific research, and its importance publishing in different journals. During the occasion, the 30th Volume of an International Journal of Biological Sciences – ‘Flora and Fauna’ with Peer reviewed – NAAS Rated 4.74; UGC-CARE listed was released. The journal has been publishing from the endeavour of ‘Scientist Unique Researchers Yare Association’ (SURYA), India which is open accessed and has been Indexing in Web of Science (Zoological Records), Index Copernicus International, Indian Citation Index, Indian Science Abstracts, C.A.B. International and Google Scholar.
Esteemed speaker Prof. Srivastav emphasized upon how an eco-friendly and sustainable lifestyle would save our environment and reduce the negative impacts. During his talk dignitaries from various organisations such Pondicherry University Brookshabad Campus, JNRM, Atal Centre for Ocean Science & Technology for Islands (NIOT), Faculty members of various departments of Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya, Fisheries Survey of India, Anthropological Survey of India, Indian Council of Medical Research, ICAR-CIARI, Science Centre, CPR-Environmental Education Centre, BSI, Doordarshan and Akashwani and over 100 students were attended. Remote Village’s Plea: Lack of Bridge and Roads Forces Perilous Travel for Medical Emergencies

Diglipur, January 02: The commuting woes of the residents of Nishchintapur village coming under Gram Panchayat Kalighat, Tehsil Diglipur have been plaguing the villagers of this outlying area since their settlement.
According to information, the denizens of Nishchintapur are reportedly facing severe commuting woes owing to non-existence of roads, bridge, transport facilities etc. and there is no one to rescue them from this grievous situation, they lamented.
Speaking to Andaman Sheekha Daily, the villagers informed that one woman of Ward No. 09, Nishchintapur village Smti. Shibani Sarkar, W/o Shri Sushanta Roy was badly bitten by a village dog in the evening of 29th December 2024. Since the dog-bite was severe, it prompted an immediate medical attention. As such, the woman was carried in a traditional village-made stretcher (made with cloth & bamboo) by two villagers accompanied by others to the PHC Kalighat at night as the village lacks a road and bridge over the Kalighat Creek.
They transported her in that traditional village-made stretcher through the bumpy & muddy track through the forest and then wading through mangrove they reached a spot and then they crossed the 1.5 mtr width wooden footbridge over the Kalighat Creek built by the Forest Dept. Ultimately, they arrived at Kalighat Bazaar from where she was taken to the PHC Kalighat after the perilous journey, they rued.
Though Smti. Shibani Sarkar was discharged from the PHC Kalighat on the request of her relatives, she has been visiting PHC Kalighat for her check-up and dressing her wounds from one her relatives’ house at Kalighat, as she is not in a condition to make to and fro movement from her house at Nishchintapur village to PHC Kalighat and vice versa only due to non-existence of a bridge over the creek of Kalighat, the decried.
The residents of this remote area have once again urged the A & N Administration to address the issue and resolve it on priority, they further informed.
Police Nab Two People in Rangat with Illicit Ganja on New Year Day; Nearly 67 Grams Seized

Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan. 02: In a swift operation, Rangat Police intercepted a young man in possession of illicit ganja near a water tank in Parnashala, Rangat, following a tip-off from a reliable source on 1st January 2025.
As per FIR, at around 3:56 PM, credible information was received that the accused, identified as Mr. S Ram, a 19-year-old resident of Parnashala, was attempting to sell ganja in the area. Acting promptly, the information was passed to Shri Rahul L. Nair, IPS, SDPO (Rangat), who directed the formation of a raiding team.
The team, led by SI Abdul Sajeed, included HC Rushkeshwar Rao, PCs K. Samir, Yashwant Rao, Sameer Dey, and LPC Sumitra Halder. Equipped with an electronic weighing machine and necessary documentation, the team proceeded to the location. At the appropriate moment, the police intercepted the accused and conducted a thorough search of the accused.
A personal search of Mr. S Ram revealed a white polythene bag containing a suspicious substance in his pant pocket. The substance, suspected to be ganja, weighed 44 grams.
Meanwhile, after interrogation of Mr. S Ram the Police team was able to arrest one more person linked to this case and from his possession nearly 23 grams of Ganja was seized, it is learnt. More details are awaited.
Air Warrior Drill Team Performances Rescheduled at Marina Road, Sri Vijaya Puram
Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan 02: Reference is hereby drawn towards the correspondence received from Group Captain VV Raman, Command Admin and Personnel Officer, Andaman and Nicobar Command, Sri Vijaya Puram wherein it has been informed that as per previous discussions on 23.12.2024 with Mr. Azharuddin Quazi, IAS (Director (Tsm)/Secretary (PBMC)) and Mr. Vinayak Chamadia, IAS, SDM, South Andaman and correspondence dated 24.12.2024 the Air Warrior Drill Team of Indian Air Force was supposed to showcase their drill display from 28th December, 2024 to 30th December, 2024 at the Marina Road, Sri Vijaya Puram during the Island Tourism Festival-2024.
However, in light of the National Mourning period following the passing of Former Prime Minister Late Manmohan Singh (Padma Vibhushan), observed until 01.01.2025, all performances during the Island Tourism Festival-2024 were postponed.
As per the latest correspondence (ANC/51000/CAPO/Gen) dated 30.12.2024, the AWDT performance has been rescheduled to 2nd, 3rd, and 4th January 2025 at the same venue. A formal request has been made for road clearance during the performance hours of the Air Warrior Drill Team.
In view of the request submitted and also keeping in view the lifting of National Mourning period, if approved, may issue notification for the road closure at Marina Road on 02nd January, 2025 till 04th January, 2025 from 1600 hrs to 1630 hrs, which will be the performance period of the Air Warrior Drill Team.

Cultural Performances and Stall Operations Extended for Island Tourism Festival
Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan 02: ITF serves as an important platform for local artists to showcase their talents as well as for keeping the cultural tradition alive. Since no stage performances could be organized till 01.01.2025 due to National Mourning, the local artists were unable to showcase their talent. Representations have been received from various stakeholders regarding allowing stalls to operate for a further period beyond 31st December, 2024, as the cancellation of stage performances in view of National Mourning has resulted in low footfall of visitors to their stalls, which has adversely affected their businesses.
Now, the A&N Administration has decided to allow Cultural performances by local artists w.e.f 02.01.2025 to 05.01.2025 at ITF Ground, Sri Vijaya Puram and on 04th & 05th January, 2025 (weekend) at Marine Esplanade as per the schedule given by Art & Culture Department.
The Stalls, Kiosks and Open spaces allotted to various Departments of A & N Administration as well as to Private Players are allowed to operate till 05.01.2025 at ITF Ground, Sri Vijaya Puram. Stalls, Kiosks and Open Spaces allotted to Private Parties shall be allowed to operate beyond 31.12.2024 till 05.01.2025 subject to submission of willingness and payment of rent as decided by the A&N Administration.

A & N State School Chess Championship 2024 Successfully Concludes
Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan 02: A & N State School Chess Championship2024 was organized on 28th December 2024 at the auditorium of Govt. Girls’ Sr. Sec. School, Sri Vijaya Puram for school students of various categories including Under 07, Under 09, Under 11, Under 13, Under 15 and Under 17 Boys & Girls.
This championship was organized in connection with the upcoming 13th National School Chess Championship 2025, scheduled to be held in Andhra Pradesh from January 17 to 21, 2025.
Mr. Vikram Singh, Director (Education / Sports) , A & N Administration, graced the venue with his presence was deeply impressed by the exceptional talent and dedication displayed by young chess players across various age groups. He encouraged the students to approach chess with professionalism and aspire to achieve recognition on both national and international stages. He assured them of all possible support from the administration to achieve success in the sport.
Around 260 school students, including participants from inter-island schools, showcased their talent and enthusiasm, making the championship a vibrant and spirited affair.

Ramnagar Gram Panchayat Launches Plastic-Free Initiative on New Year’s Day 2025
Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan 02: On January 1, 2025, the Gram Panchayat of Ramnagar took a significant step towards environmental conservation by officially declaring Ramnagar Beach as a “Plastic-Free Zone.” This move is part of the Swachh Bharat Mission, aiming to reduce plastic pollution and promote cleanliness in the village.
The initiative was inaugurated on December 31, 2024, in a ceremony attended by several distinguished guests. Block Development Officer of Diglipur, Mr. Rajendra Kumar, served as the chief guest, while Mr. Suresh.V, the Range Officer for Wildlife Kalara, and Mr. Rasheed, the Forest Range Officer for Kalighat, were the guests of honor. During the inaugural program, the dignitaries praised the initiative, urging the public to reduce plastic usage in order to preserve the natural beauty of Ramnagar village.
To further enforce this initiative and maintain cleanliness, Mr. Mitun Das, the Pradhan of Ramnagar Gram Panchayat, announced the introduction of vehicle entry charges and security deposits. These measures aim to discourage the use of plastic items and encourage their proper disposal. The charges and deposit details are as follows:
Vehicle Entry Charges (Non-Refundable):
• For 2-wheelers: Rs. 10/-
• For 3 & 4-wheelers: Rs. 20/-
• For Buses/Tempo/Pick-up Vans/Others: Rs. 50/-
Security Deposits for Plastic Items:
• 2 liters or above (Water/Juice/Glass Bottles): Rs. 200/-
• Chips packets/less than 2 liters small juice packets/other items: Rs. 100/-
The security deposit will be refunded if the items are returned to the Panchayat counter. However, if they are not returned, the deposit will be forfeited.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mrs. Kakoli Ghosh, Panchayat Secretary of Ramnagar. Through these initiatives, the Gram Panchayat aims to create a cleaner, greener environment and set an example for other regions to follow in the fight against plastic pollution.
