Farmers of Diglipur Express Relief as Agriculture Director Visits, Addresses Grievances

Diglipur, January 21: The farmers of Diglipur region breathed a sigh of relief after Dr. Apurva Sharma, Director, Agriculture Department, A & N Administration visited Diglipur and interacted with the farmers and Diglipur Farmer Union recently.

Speaking to Andaman Sheekha Daily, Mr. Kamal Halder, President, Diglipur Farmer Union said that Dr. Apurva Sharma, Director, Agriculture Department, A & N Administration visited Diglipur and interacted with the farmers and Diglipur Farmer Union on 18th January 2025.

Earlier, a meeting was held in the Conference Hall of the Administrative Building, Diglipur to this effect on 17th January 2025 at around 04:00 pm, Mr. Kamal Halder. In the meeting, the Director heard the grievances of the farmers raised by the Farmer Union. However, the Agriculture Director elaborately spoke on the adverse effects of chemical fertilizers and the advantages of using organic fertilizers in the fields for growing vegetables. He also assured the farmer community to extend all possible assistance to their agricultural activities and which the Farmer Union hugely hailed, Mr. Halder said.

The following day the Director visited the farmers’ fields in different villages and inspected the vegetable plants. During his visit, he interacted with the farmers and heard their grievances and problems emerged owing to non-availability of fertilizers. The Agri. Director, after giving a patient hearing to the grievances voiced by the farmers in the field, assured the harried farmers that the Dept. is working hard on it and is trying its best to resolve the issue on priority, Mr. Halder said.

Expressing his gratitude to Dr. Apurva Sharma for visiting the fields and farmers of Diglipur, Mr. Kamal Halder conveyed his heartfelt thanks to the Agriculture Director and his endeavour, Diglipur Farmer Union’s President further added.

Chief Secretary visits Lamba Pahad to Inspect Land Conversion Issue; Over 600 Plots Await Conversion

Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan 21: At the request of Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, Member of Parliament, A&N Islands and in order to understand the ground realities for the examination of the long-pending land conversion matter, the Chief Secretary and his team visited Lamba Pahad, Sippighat on 20.01.2025 and inspected the plotting area. They visited the plotting sites, interacted with residents in the presence of the MP, and listened to their grievances regarding the non-conversion of land, which is affecting over 600 plots.
The residents informed the Chief Secretary that they had purchased the land in 2014 using their hard-earned money, pensions and personal loans, hoping to develop and build houses with bank loans after the land was converted into house sites. However, this goal has been unachievable due to the halt in the conversion process since 2018.
They further informed the Chief Secretary that most of them are inter-island settlers and retired government employees who purchased the land for residential purposes, especially to support their children’s education and health needs. They added that while the mutation of the plots in their individual names has been completed, the conversion process remains stalled.
The residents also highlighted that during the plotting of the land, a 6-meter-wide area was earmarked for roads, which had been set aside by the revenue authority as per procedure. Furthermore, electricity connections, ring wells and water supply infrastructure have already been made available in the plotting area. Despite these provisions, the land conversion process for house sites remains halted.
During the site visit and inspection, the MP brought to the Chief Secretary’s attention that thousands of similar cases across the Andaman & Nicobar Islands are causing widespread hardship and need urgent resolution. Based on the discussions, the MP will submit a detailed letter to the Chief Secretary for examination and urgent action to address the long-pending issue of land conversion.

Andaman Student Shines in National Meteorological Olympiad

Sri Vijayapuram, Jan 21: G. Sreepriya, a Class IX student from Vivekananda Kendra Nagarpalika Vidyalaya, Ranchi Tekri, has made her school and entire Andaman and Nicobar Islands proud by securing the first position in the recently conducted National Level MET-Olympiad. This prestigious examination was organized to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the India Meteorological Department, New Delhi, under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India.

The event saw participation from students across the country, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi gracing the celebrations. Her dedication and hard work have set a benchmark for her peers.

The Principal, teachers, parents, and friends of Vivekananda Kendra Nagarpalika Vidyalaya have extended their heartfelt congratulations to Sreepriya for her outstanding performance.

Traffic arrangements notified in connection with Full Dress Rehearsal on Jan. 24 and Republic Day Function on Jan.26

Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan. 21:The general public have been informed that the following Traffic arrangements have been made in connection with Full Dress Rehearsal on 24th January 2025 and ‘Republic Day Function’ on 26th January 2025.
1. The carcade of the Hon’ble Lt. Governor, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, will follow the route Fire Brigade Crossing → Vikas Bhawan → Scout Hut Junction → Y Narayan Junction, and arrive at Cellular Jail. After the wreath-laying ceremony at the Cellular Jail Martyrs’ Column, the carcade will proceed to the venue via the route; Cellular Jail → Water Sports Tri-Junction→ Marina Park. The Hon’ble Lt. Governor’s carcade will be parked inside Marina Park near the designated alighting point.
2. Senior Administrative Officers holding the ‘P’ (Green) parking card may take any route to reach the venue. The dignitaries should alight at the designated drop-off point inside Marina Park. After dropping off the officers/dignitaries, the vehicles must proceed to the designated ‘Green P’ parking areas. These parking areas are located either near the entrance gate of Marina Park (Children’s Traffic Park) or near Dugong Guest House. To reach these parking zones, vehicles should follow the route; Girls School Junction → Scout Hut Junction → Netaji Stadium → Y Narayan Junction → Parking near Dugong Guest House or Parking near Marina Park Gate (Children’s Traffic Park).
3. Officers holding the ‘P’ (Pink) parking card may take any route to reach the venue. The dignitaries should alight at the designated drop-off point inside Marina Park. After dropping off the officers/dignitaries, the vehicles must proceed to the designated ‘Pink P’ parking areas. These parking areas are located near the Swimming Pool Complex. To reach these parking zones, vehicles should follow the route; Girls School Junction → Scout Hut Junction → Netaji Stadium → Swimming Pool Parking Area.
4. The holders of all ‘P’ (Green and Pink) car parking label except the Hon’ble LG’s carcade, may use the routes:
a. Clock Tower – Y Narayan Junction – Dharamsala Junction – Marina Park gate (Children’s Traffic Park).
b. APWD Junction–Fire Brigade Junction–Scout Hut Junction–Netaji Stadium – Y-Narayan Junction – Dharamsala Junction – Marina Park Gate (Children’s Traffic Park).
5. Holders of the ‘P-1’ car parking label should use the following route: Clock Tower → Y Narayan Junction → Netaji Stadium. Parking is available inside the Netaji Stadium behind the SAI Hostel.
6. The Holders of the ‘P-1’ car parking labels will be seated on the right side (Swimming Pool end), opposite the Chief Guest’s main dais. They are requested to arrive at the venue not later than 0735 hrs using the route beside the swimming pool.
7. After the carcade of the Hon’ble Lt. Governor departs from the venue, vehicles with the ‘P’ (Green and Pink) parking label should proceed to the alighting point inside Marina Park. From there, they will exit towards Girls School and follow the route; Girls School Junction → Scout Hut Junction → Vikas Bhavan (ANIIDCO Office) → Fire Brigade → APWD Crossing, and then continue to their respective destinations.
8. After the carcade of the Hon’ble Lt. Governor departs from the venue followed by departure of vehicles with “P” (Green and Pink) parking labels, vehicles with the ‘P-1’ parking label shall depart following the route; Parking near Sports Hostel → Netaji Stadium → Y Narayan Junction → Clock Tower, and then proceed to their respective destinations.
9. The general public without invitation cards, arriving in vehicles without a parking label (including two-wheelers and four-wheelers), must park inside Netaji Stadium behind Multipurpose Hall. They are requested to arrive at the venue not later than 0700 hrs using the main entrance gate of Netaji Stadium and then proceed towards the gate leading to the Multipurpose Hall.
10. After the function concludes, vehicles without parking labels, parked in Netaji Stadium, will be directed from the parking area towards Y Narayan Junction or Clock Tower to proceed to their respective destinations, but only after all vehicles with valid parking passes have been cleared.
11. From 0800 hrs to 1030 hrs, vehicles traveling between Aberdeen Bazaar and South Point (in either direction) will be diverted via the following route; Model School Crossing → APWD Crossing → Murugan Temple → Siddiqui Junction → Shadipur Junction.
12. From 0730 hrs to 1030 hrs or until the parade and invitees have dispersed, heavy vehicles and buses heading towards Model School/Clock Tower will be diverted at Bengali Club to proceed via Goalghar and Junglighat.
13. From 0800 hrs until the dispersal of the parade and invitees, no vehicles will be allowed to proceed towards the venue via the following routes; Cellular Jail → Y Narayan Junction → Fire Brigade Junction → Murugan Temple → RK Mission → Flag Point → Water Sports Tri-Junction.
14. From 0600 hrs until the completion of the function, no vehicle will be allowed to proceed towards Girls School from the following points; Scout Hut Junction → RK Mission → Machi Line → Govt. Press → Hotel Sinclairs/Circuit House.
15. Ambulances and vehicles carrying medical emergency cases heading to GB Pant Hospital should follow the route; Y Narayan Junction → Cellular Jail → GB Pant Hospital. This route will remain closed to all other vehicles from 0805 hrs to 0835 hrs, except for ambulances and vehicles with medical emergencies. Further, Vehicles stationed inside GB Pant Hospital will be allowed to proceed towards the back gate of the GB Pant Hospital and will be diverted towards Dignabad Seashore Road via Water Sports Tri-Junction from 0700 hrs to 1000 hrs.
16. Vehicles carrying parade contingents, after dropping the contingents at Girls School Junction, should proceed towards Fire Brigade and remain stationed there. After the parade culminates at Fire Brigade Junction, these vehicles will return to their respective units with the parade contingents.
17. The marching contingents participating in the Republic Day Parade will march from Girls School Crossing towards Dharmshala Crossing, and then follow the route; Y Narayan Junction → Clock Tower → Model School Crossing, culminating in front of Fire Brigade Crossing.
18. The tableaux participating in the Republic Day Parade will drive from Girls School Crossing towards Dharmshala Crossing, and then follow the route: Dugong Guest House → Water Sports Tri-Junction and finally halt at Foreshore Road.

Power Interruption

Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan 21: It is brought to the notice of the electricity consumer and general public that power supply will remain suspended in the following area on 22.01.2025 from 07:30 hrs. to 12:30 hrs. in due to the shifting of a transformer for JICA work at Garacharma.

Additionally, power supply may be affected on 23.01.2025 (Thursday) between 07:30 hrs and 14:30 hrs in the following area due to the installation of two H-Poles at Bambooflat to prevent high tension line sagging.

Animal Husbandry Department Launches Stray Population Control Drive in Campbell Bay

Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan. 21: The Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (AH&VS) in Campbell Bay, has launched a campaign to address the growing issue of stray cattle and dog population. This initiative is part of the ongoing Animal Welfare Fortnight, a period dedicated to promoting the welfare of animals, raising awareness about their rights, and implementing measures to ensure their well-being.
To control the rising menace of stray cattle and dogs, the Department organized a mass castration campaign. During the campaign, 5 bulls and 4 dogs were castrated.

Raj Niwas Celebrates Foundation Day of Manipur, Meghalaya & Tripura Under ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’

Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan. 21: As part of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ initiative and as per directives of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India, the Foundation Day of Manipur, Meghalaya & Tripura was celebrated enthusiastically today in Raj Niwas. Persons hailing from Manipur and Meghalaya participated in the function. A short documentary on Manipur, Meghalaya & Tripura was screened. The function ended with high tea, group photograph and presentation of mementos to invitees.
The participants thanked MHA, Govt. of India and Raj Niwas for the initiative and for providing them opportunities and platform for interaction.
