Diglipur Residents Face Hardship as Ships with Bunk/Cabins Cease Operations, Medical Patients Worst Affected

Diglipur, Jan 05: Shri M. Rama Rao, General Secretary, Block Congress Committee, Diglipur has raised the issue of non-plying of ships with bunk/cabins like Nalanda, Sindhu, Kalighat etc. between Sri Vijaya Puram and Diglipur via Mayabunder and its consequent problems to the general public of Diglipur.

Speaking to Andaman Sheekha Daily, the General Secretary said that non-plying of ships like Nalanda, Nalanda, Sindhu, Kalighat etc. with bunk/cabins is causing significant disruptions and hardships to people of Diglipur. In fact, the medical referred patients are the worst affected owing to removing the service of these vessels on this route, he said.

Referring to the sailing schedule foreshore sector between Sri Vijaya Puram and Diglipur via Mayabunder, there reportedly is no sailing of Nalanda Sindhu, Kalighat etc on this sea route between Sri Vijaya Puram and Diglipur via Mayabunder right from 22nd December 2024 to 11th January 2025, instead, MV Strait Island, MV Jolly Buoy and MV Baratang have been placed in service/sailing between Sri Vijaya Puram and Diglipur via Mayabunder; and these small boats don’t have bunk/beds and have only seats, as such the referred patients, non-referred/common patients, elderly people are suffering, as they can’t be transported by these small boats with no beds/bunk Mr. Rao decried.

The medical referred patients are suffering owing to non-availability of specialist doctors in CHC, Diglipur in one hand, and non-plying of ships with bunk/cabins like Nalanda, Sindhu, Kalighat etc. between Sri Vijaya Puram and Diglipur via Mayabunder by the Directorate of Shipping Services (DSS) on the other hand, as observed by the General Secretary, BCC, Diglipur.

Mr. Rao said that he would write a letter to the higher authorities of the DSS and A & N Administration in this regard for plying of with bunk/cabins like Nalanda, Sindhu, Kalighat etc. between Sri Vijaya Puram and Diglipur via Mayabunder on regular basis thereby alleviating the sufferings of the patients and passengers of Diglipur, he further added.

Protest in Togapur: Villagers Demand Retention of Government Doctors at PHC

Togapur, Jan 05: Residents of Pahalgaon village and Chainpur Panchayat staged a roadblock protest in Togapur yesterday, demanding the cancellation of recent transfer orders for two government doctors currently serving at the Primary Health Centre (PHC) Togapur. The PHC is the only major healthcare facility catering to patients from Chainpur, Hanspur, and nearby areas.
Villagers praised the exceptional treatment and compassionate behavior of the two doctors, highlighting how their dedicated service has significantly improved healthcare in the region. They expressed concern that transferring these doctors would severely impact the quality of medical care provided at the PHC.
The Deputy Commissioner of North and Middle Andaman, Mrs. Nandini Maharaj, reportedly arrived at the protest site to address the situation. She listened to the grievances of the villagers and acknowledged the validity of their concerns. As per reports, Mrs. Maharaj assured them that she would raise the issue with the Health Secretary and the Director of Health Services (DHS) to seek a resolution.
Other Senior officials from Mayabunder also attended the site to maintain law and order situation during the protest. However, the villagers warned that they would wait until Wednesday for a resolution, failing which they would be compelled to escalate their protest with an even larger demonstration.

ANTCC Takes Out Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan Rally

Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan 05: On the instruction of All India Congress Committee (AICC), the Andaman & Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee on the 04th of january, 2025 organized ‘Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan Rally,’ to protest against the BJP for insulting freedom fighters and undermining the Constitution.
The march was held under the leadership of ANTCC President Mr. Rangalal Halder and ANTCC Campaign Committee Chairman Mr. TSG Bhasker. Congressmen gathered in large numbers to raise their voice against the BJP.
The Rally started from Gandhi Bhawan and proceeded to Clock Tower and returned back where in route the Congress leaders paid floral tributes to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi, Indira Gandhi and Dr. B.R Ambedkar
The demonstrators condemned the recent remarks made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the Rajya Sabha insulting Dr. B.R Ambedkar. The Congress leaders called for the resignation of Amit Shah and reaffirmed its commitment to save Dr. B.R Ambedkar’s and Mahatma Gandhi’s legacy of justice and equality.
Many Senior Leaders of Congress, AICC Members, TCC Members, BCC Members, Heads of Frontal Organizations/Departments, PRI Members and PBMC Councillors were present on the occasion.

 

Nature Interpretation Centre and Bird-cum-Nature Trail Inaugurates in Middle Andaman

Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan 05: The Middle Andaman Forest Division has created a Nature Interpretation Centre (NIC) at Kadamatala and Bird-cum-Nature Trail at Jarawa Gate No. 3, which was inaugurated by Dr. A Anil Kumar, IFS, Chief Conservator of Forests, A&N Forest Deptt. on Jan. 3, 2025 in the august presence of Ms. Sita Majhi, Pramukh, Panchayat Samiti, Rangat & ex-Zilla Parishad Adhyaksh, Mr. Subrato Basu.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Anil Kumar appreciated the initiatives and shared that it is going to serve as an attractive destination for visitors, which in turn will boost the local economy by creating opportunities for eco-tourism, guiding services, and handicraft sales. The development of these sites aims to foster a deeper connection between the community and nature, while promoting responsible tourism and conservation.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Abdul Qayum, IFS, DFO, Middle Andaman highlighted the importance of these initiatives in promoting environmental awareness, conservation, and community engagement apart from addition of another segment to the ecotourism circuit of Middle Andaman. It is hoped that eco-tourism initiatives will have direct bearing on improving livelihood opportunities of the nearby areas.

The Information Center was designed to educate visitors and locals about the rich biodiversity of the region. It contains informative displays on the local flora and fauna, interactive exhibits and models that provide insight into the forest ecosystem and conservation efforts. It also includes a section dedicated to the significance of the region’s indigenous tribal communities especially Jarawas and their role in maintaining ecological balance.

Another addition of Bird-cum-Nature Trail at Jarawa Gate No. 3 offers visitors an immersive experience through nature walks, allowing them to observe birdlife and wildlife in their natural habitat. The trail is equipped with informative boards and observation points, indigenous huts, making it an ideal location for both nature lovers and educational groups.

These facilities are expected to benefit the local communities by providing educational opportunities, raising awareness about the importance of preserving nature and encouraging sustainable tourism and providing ample opportunities for self-employment to the local youth.

The initiation of these sites marks an important step towards raising awareness about the region’s natural heritage while contributing to sustainable community development and ecological conservation in Middle Andaman.

Swift Eviction Drive by District Administration, SA Reclaims Encroached Land in Hutbay Village

Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan 05: The District Administration, South Andaman has intensified its efforts to address the issue of encroachments through continuous eviction drives across the District. This initiative aims to remove unauthorized structures and restore Government lands and public spaces from encroachments by unscrupulous elements.
In a recent drive, two unauthorized encroachments in the shape of temporary structure at Hutbay village was removed by the revenue officials. A total area of 300 Sq. mtr of government land was cleared of unauthorized structures and returned to its original status.
The Administration remains vigilant in its efforts to protect government land from unauthorized constructions, ensuring that such infringements are addressed swiftly and decisively. The reclaimed land is now secured for future development and public welfare projects, ensuring its benefit for the broader community.
The District Administration urges the public to respect government property and warns that any attempts at encroachment will result in strict legal action.

Director of Education and Sports Inaugurates 23rd Annual Athletic Meet at Crescent Senior Secondary School

Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan 05: The 23rd Annual Athletic Meet (2024-2025) of Crescent Senior Secondary School, Wimberly Gunj was held with great zeal and enthusiasm at the Mini Stadium, Wimberly Gunj on 4th January 2025. The event witnessed the presence of distinguished guests, vibrant performances, and the spirit of sportsmanship among the students.

Mr. Vikram Singh, DANICS, Director of Education and Sports, graced the inaugural session as the Chief Guest and officially declared the Athletic Meet open after lighting the ceremonial torch. Dr. Manoharan, Deputy Education Officer of Wimberly Gunj Zone, presided as the Guest of Honor. Smti.N.Bhavani Vijayakala, Principal of Crescent Senior Secondary School, extended a warm welcome to the gathering.

The highlight of the inaugural session was a captivating performance by students from Classes II to VIII, who showcased the diversity of Indian culture through vibrant dances and an impressive aerobic drill. Mr. Vikram Singh, in his address, lauded the students for their dedication and sportsmanship, emphasizing the importance of integrating sports and Yoga into everyday life. He later distributed prizes to winners of various events.

The session concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Mr. P. Mujib Rehman, Manager of Crescent Senior Secondary School, and a token of appreciation in the form of a memento was presented to the Chief Guest by MK Mohammed, Secretary of the school.

The closing ceremony was equally momentous, with Mr. P. Abdul Basheer, Pradhan of Gram Panchayat Kanyapuram, presiding as the Chief Guest, and Mr. Rizwan Hassan, SHO of Bamboo Flat Police Station, attending as the Guest of Honor. The event concluded with the distribution of prizes for individual champions among boys and girls, as well as the overall championship trophy, which was claimed by the Andaman Serpent Eagle House.

Mr. P. Abdul Basheer brought the event to a close by lowering the Athletic Meet flag and officially declaring the event concluded. The event was a resounding success, showcasing the school’s commitment to fostering talent, teamwork, and sportsmanship among its students.

A&N Administration speeds up efforts under PM TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan

Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan 05: The District Health Society under aegis of South Andaman District Administration conducted a camp at Kaitan Kalyana Mandapam, Junglighat and distributed nutritional kits to TB patients under the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
Mr. Arjun Sharma, IAS, Deputy Commissioner (South Andaman), distributed nutritional kits to TB patients at an event held at Kaitan Kalyana Mandapam, Junglighat. The programme was aimed to motivate the community to adopt TB patients and raise awareness about TB prevention, early detection, and treatment.
In his address, Mr. Arjun Sharma, IAS, emphasized the collective responsibility in the fight against TB. He highlighted the importance of early diagnosis, consistent treatment, and active community participation to eradicate the disease. Mr. Sharma stressed that addressing the social stigma associated with TB is equally crucial, as fostering awareness and community engagement can significantly reduce the disease’s prevalence and improve patient outcomes.
Additionally, the DC(SA) shared that 41 Nikshay Mitras have already registered under the initiative and presently 133 TB patients have been adopted under South Andaman District. He encouraged the public to contribute to this noble cause by registering as a Nikshay Mitra through the Nikshay portal at https://reports.nikshay.in/FormIO/DonorRegistration.
Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, IAS, Chief Secretary and other senior officers of Andaman & Nicobar Administration have registered themselves as Nikshay Mitras and adopted TB patients under the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.

Record-Breaking Stamp Duty and Registration Fee Collections in December 2024

Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan 05: The Office of the Sub-Registrar, South Andaman has achieved an all-time high in stamp duty and registration fee collections for December 2024, since the implementation of the online registration system on 22nd October 2019.

In December 2024, the office achieved remarkable growth in revenue collection compared to December 2023. The collections for stamp duty and registration fees are summarized in the table below:

This enhancement aims to reduce overcrowding at the office, ease the rush for registrations, provide earlier appointment dates, ensure faster and smoother registration services and enable the timely processing and disposal of all deeds.

TGCE Announces Examination Schedule for Arrear Papers

Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan 05: All the previous teacher trainees of TGCE are hereby inform that Time-table to conduct theory examination for arrear papers for B.Ed. 1st and 2nd Year from 27th Jan, 2025 onwards, has been received by TGCE. Desirous previous teacher trainees of B.Ed. I and II year should immediately report to college along with details of arrear paper and requisite exam fees on or before 09 Jan, 2025. No further registration for same will be conducted by the college whatsoever the reason may be after 09 January, 2025.
