Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec 22: The Community Medicine Department, ANIIMS & GB Pant Hospital in the effort to raise awareness and foster understanding of menstrual health and hygiene among young girls organized a comprehensive health talk across three institutes in Sri Vijaya Puram. The health talk elaborated upon the biological process of menstrual cycle, pain during menstruation, maintaining cleanliness, symptoms of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and the social taboos surrounding menstruation.
The sessions were conducted at Government Senior Secondary School (Garacharma), GDMS (Middle Point) and Pranab Kanya Sangha orphanage benefiting around 150 young girls empowering them to make informed choices regarding their menstrual health. The sessions were led by experts from the Community Medicine Department providing in-depth knowledge on the physiological aspects of menstruation, how to manage discomfort associated with dysmenorrhea, and understanding the impact of PCOS on menstrual cycles and overall well-being.
The young girls were also educated on the importance of hygienic disposal of sanitary pads and measures to prevent bacterial and fungal infections. The session also provided an opportunity for an interactive discussion, allowing students to clarify doubts or misconceptions about menstrual hygiene, to promote a better understanding of safe practices. The session concluded with the free distribution of sanitary napkins sponsored by Little Hearts NGO.
