Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec. 19: A Block-Level Training Program on ‘Promoting Rural Entrepreneurship and Livelihood Certification’ was held at the CMTC Building, Ferrargunj, to empower women leaders and promote sustainable development in rural communities. The initiative brought together 125 participants, including elected women representatives, Community Resource Persons (CRPs) and members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs). The program aimed to strengthen the role of women in rural governance and economic activities by providing practical insights into entrepreneurship and livelihood strategies. The sessions were inaugurated by the Block Development Officer (BDO), Ferrargunj, who emphasized the pivotal role of women in driving rural transformation.
The event featured renowned speakers and subject experts who shared their knowledge and experience.
Dr. Pooja Kapoor, Subject Matter Specialist from ICAR-CIARI, delivered an insightful session on ‘Strategies for Integrated Agriculture and Sustainable Livelihoods’. Ms. Deepa Biswas, Domain Expert (Livelihood), focused on ‘Sustainable Entrepreneurship Strategies for Rural Women’. Shri Seemon Mitra, Branch Manager of SBI, Wimberlygunj, provided a comprehensive overview on Institutional Support for Women Entrepreneurs.
The training program underscores the commitment to empowering women as key stakeholders in rural development.

Transport Department Promotes Skill Development and Apprenticeship Opportunities for Local Youth
Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec. 19: Govt. of India has implemented a National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme to promote apprenticeship in the country by providing financial incentives, technology and advocacy support. Transport Department, A&N Administration is taking various steps for skill development training for the local youths residing specially in southern group of Islands under various certification programs in different trades relevant to transportation sector through DBRAIT and ITI. These candidates would be later eligible for engagement as apprentices in various trades in Transport Department.
In the first instance, the candidates residing in southern group of Islands and possessing ITI or any certification in any technical trades have been requested to avail the opportunity of engaging as apprentices in various trades like Motor Mechanic, Auto Electrician, Fitter, Welder etc. in Transport Department. The candidates possessing Trade Certificate from the recognized ITI/community programme may submit their applications through https://www.apprenticeshipindia.gov.in/ under apprenticeship opportunities. They may also approach the Office of Assistant Engineer, STS Unit, Car Nicobar for any further assistance in this matter.
Orientation on Tuberculosis Conducted at CHC Nancowrie to Strengthen Early Detection and Treatment
Nancowrie, Dec. 19: A one-day orientation training on Tuberculosis (TB) was organized in the conference hall of CHC Nancowrie for NOs, ANMs, MPHWs, CHOs and other paramedical staff. The session was led by Dr. M A Tanzeer, Medical Officer, CHC Nancowrie, who elaborated on various critical aspects of TB. He emphasized the importance of Active Case Finding (ACF), early diagnosis, symptoms identification, management of presumptive TB cases, and the significance of early detection and treatment for effective TB control.
Additionally, Shri D. Suresh Kumar (STS) provided an insightful briefing on TB medications, significance of Directly Observed Treatment, Short-course (DOTS) and the importance of screening presumptive cases, including Antenatal Care (ANC) patients, diabetics and close contacts of diagnosed TB patients. The training highlighted the collaborative efforts required for TB eradication and stressed the role of healthcare workers in identifying and treating TB cases promptly.
