Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec 16: The General Body Meeting of the Andaman & Nicobar Anganwadi Workers & Helpers was held at Shaheed Bhavan, Anarkali on 14th November, 2024. Geeta Devi, President of the Union presided over the meeting. Fulcaria Dung Dung, Treasurer welcomed the gathering.
Addressing the meeting, B. Chandrachoodan, General Secretary, CITU A & N State Committee called upon all the Anganwadi Workers and Helpers working in the Anganwadies of Andaman & Nicobar Islands to strengthen the A & N Anganwadi Workers & Helpers Union (CITU), in order to conduct movements for their legitimate demands of minimum wages, gratuity, leave, etc. He drew the attention of the participants to the valiant struggle being conducted by the CITU-affiliated Anganwadi unions in various parts of the country with their demands and asked the Anganwadi functionaries in the islands to join the country-wide agitations of the Anganwadi Workers.
Addressing the gathering, D. Ayyappan, Vice President, CITU State Committee said that the Anganwadi Workers & Helpers should get reasonable wages to sustain as they are forced to work in the Anganwadies throughout the day daily and to carry out other works connected with various government welfare schemes. Citing various court orders, he said that these workers are entitled to get the Gratuity and minimum wages and blamed the BJP-led central government for denying the same to the Anganwadi Workers & Helpers.
M. Yugander, Secretary, CITU State Committee also addressed the meeting. R. Surendran Pillai, President, P. Sathyapal and SP Kalairajan, Secretaries of CITU State Committee were also present on the occasion.
The meeting discussed various issues concerning the Anganwadi Workers and Helpers in Andaman & Nicobar Islands. After discussion, the general body meeting chalked out various agitational programmes, etc. in the islands on the demands for gratuity, increase in the honorarium, minimum wages, leave, timely payment of honorarium, etc.
Earlier in the meeting, R. Anbukkarsi, General Secretary presented a brief report on the functioning of the Union. A large number of Anganwadi Workers & Helpers of Port Blair and rural South Andaman attended the meeting.

Provisionally Selected Candidates for Carpentry and Other Trades Training Announced by Directorate of Industries
Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec. 16: The Directorate of Industries, A&N Administration is imparting one year training in the trade carpentry, general engineering, cane & bamboo and tailoring & garment through Department Training Centre at Sri Vijaya Puram & other outstation establishments. The Department has received applications for undergoing training in the aforesaid trade for the year 2024-25 at Sri Vijaya Puram.
The Department has provisionally selected 25 candidates along with 10 waiting list candidates for the said trade, which is being displayed in the Notice Board of Directorate of Industries, Udyog Parisar, Sri Vijaya Puram. All the provisionally selected candidates along with waiting list candidates have been requested to carry the original certificates, provide the self-attested copy of relevant certificates, within seven days for completing the codal formalities to Training Cell of the Directorate of Industries. Failure to submit the documents and complete the codal formalities within the stipulated time shall result in the cancellation of their selection.
5-Day Training on RTI and Office Procedures for Clerical Cadre Begins at TGCE
Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec. 16: The 5-day Peripatetic Training programme on RTI and Office Procedure, Noting, Drafting and Record Management for the Head Clerk/ HGCs /LGCs of Amalgamated Clerical Cadre working in various Departments under A&N Administration got underway today in the Gallery Hall of Tagore Govt. College of Education here. The Administrative Reforms and Training Wing of A&N Administration in association with the Institute of Secretariat Training & Management (ISTM), Department of Personnel & Training, Govt. of India, New Delhi is organizing the training.
The Principal of Tagore Govt. College of Education, Dr. Manjulata Rao inaugurated the training programme as the chief guest. The Institute of Secretariat Training & Management (ISTM), Department of Personnel & Training, Govt. of India, New Delhi has deputed Smt. Namita Malik, Joint Director and Shri Puneet Kumar Sharma, Deputy Director of ISTM for imparting the Training. The training pogramme which started today will continue up to Dec. 20, 2024. Altogether, 45 participants are participating in the training.

Dr. S.R.DIET, Garacharma Organizes 4-Day Training Cum Workshop for PT-PSTs on NCF-FS 2022
Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec 16: Dr.S.R.DIET, Garacharma, successfully organized a four-day training cum workshop for Preschool Teachers (PT-PSTs)/Pre-Primary Teachers on the National Curriculum Framework for Foundational Stage (NCF-FS) 2022. The workshop was conducted across three educational zones: Rangat, Mayabunder, and Diglipur, from December 10th to 13th December, 2024.
The workshop in Rangat Zone was inaugurated by Mr. Dheeraj Kumar, DEO Rangat, at the conference hall of GSSS Rangat. Dr. Sushim Biswas, Principal of GSSS Rangat, also graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour.
The workshop in Mayabunder Zone was inaugurated by Mr. Prakash Hawlader, DEO Mayabunder, at the conference hall of GSS Webi. Mrs. Jothy, Principal of GSSS Mayabunder, attended as the Guest of Honour.
The workshop in Diglipur Zone was inaugurated by Mrs. Sulochana, DEO Diglipur, at the conference hall of DEO Diglipur.
While addressing the participants, the zonal officers of all three zones emphasized the importance of this training, noting that it is crucial to adapt teaching methodologies in the foundational stage to promote the holistic, fivefold development of children as outlined in NCF-FS 2022. On the final day, a display of toy-based Teaching Learning Materials (TLMs) created during the workshop captivated all attendees. All participants were distributed training modules and certificates by the Zonal officers.
This comprehensive training cum workshop aimed to equip teachers with the knowledge and skills required to implement the NCF-FS 2022 guidelines effectively, ensuring a better future for young learners in these regions.
Island Team to participate in the 24th National Tribal Sports Competition of ABVKA
Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec 16: There is immense physical ability and skill among our forest-dwelling Vanvasi youths. Going to remote villages, researching sports talents and providing them opportunities by training them is an important task in the sports dimension. Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram, which has been working in the field of sports for many years, has achieved many achievements. The sports world has many young players. Talent flourishes due to getting both training and opportunity to play. As a result, players from remote and small villages get an opportunity to come forward. Every year, Akhil Bharatiya Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram (ABV) organizes archery and any other sports competition at the national level. Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram in its “Khelkud Aayam” organizes daily and weekly Sports Centers for the rural tribal youths at many places to enhance and showcase their skills in the field of sports.
As such, Akhil Bharatiya Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram (ABVKA) is oragnises 24th National Tribal Sports Competition (Rashtriya Vanvasi Krida Pratiyogita) from 27th to 31st December, 2024 at Raipur, Chhattisgarh. Wherein, around 800 participants across the country will participate in Archery and Football competitions. The reception committee of Vanvasi Vikas Samiti, Chhattisgarh are fully prepared for this upcoming event and to welcome the young tribal sportsmen.
It sounds very glad that the Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram, Andaman & Nicobar – Sports Team comprises of 21 Sportsmen along with Team Manager (State Sports Incharge, Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram, A&N Islands) Mr. Vijay Kumar Lohar, Coach in Archery – Ms. Kiran Kiro & Ms. Riya Oraon and Coach in Football – Mr. Surju Sahu & Mr. Ghacia Oraon. The Participants will take part in Junior Archery & Junior Football Competitions from these Islands in the 24th National Tribal Sports Competition to be held at Raipur, Chhattisgarh. The Sports Team is proceeding to Mainland via Chennai on 17th December, 2024 through M.V. Sindhu Ship. The Sports Team is very much enthusiastic and well prepared for their participation. Dweep Diksha Dialogue – 2024: Dweep Madad’ Seminar to Commemorate 20th Anniversary of 2004 Tsunami
Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec 16: The Headquarters of Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC) is set to organize a significant seminar titled ‘Dweep Diksha Dialogue – 2024: Dweep Madad’ on December 19 and 20, 2024. The event marks the 20th anniversary of the devastating 2004 tsunami and aims to reflect on lessons learned while strengthening humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) initiatives.
The seminar will also host the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS) HADR Working Group (IWG) meeting as a conjoined event. This gathering is expected to bring together a distinguished group of Indian and international experts from diverse fields to share insights and foster collaboration on disaster management and relief efforts.

Cycling event by Sports Authority of India in Sri Vijaya Puram
Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec 16: Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, will flag off the ‘Fit India Cycling Tuesdays’ initiative on December 17 in New Delhi. On the same day, a cycling event will be organized by the Sports Authority of India in Sri Vijaya Puram (Port Blair).
The Sri Vijaya Puram event will feature renowned cyclists of the isles, including Deborah Herold, N. Nikita, Bobby Thapa leading a joy ride alongwith other cyclists from velodrome area to flag point under the guidance of cycling Coaches , Sh Subhendu sengupta and Anand V promoting the spirit of health and fitness.
The event at SAI STC, Port Blair, underscores the region’s commitment to promoting cycling as both a sustainable mode of transportation and a form of exercise. The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, in collaboration with the Cycling Federation of India (CFI), MY Bharat, SAI Regional Centres, National Centres of Excellence (NCOEs), Khelo India Centres (KICs), Sports Training Centres (STCs), and district administrations, is spearheading these events.
The ‘Fit India Cycling Tuesdays’ initiative will simultaneously launch at over 1,000 venues across India on December 17, with events taking place at various SAI regional centres. Following the launch, cycling events will continue nationwide every Tuesday.

Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec. 16:Passengers/general public have been informed that due to prevailing adverse weather condition and strong winds, the sailing programme of MV Bambooka to Rangat via Swaraj Dweep& Long Island on 17.12.2024 at 0600 hrs from Phoenix Bay Jetty and her return voyage from Rangat to Sri Vijaya Puram via same route at 1200 hrs has been cancelled.
Passengers who have purchased their tickets for the above sailing have been advised to cancel their tickets and get full refund.
