Chief Secretary Inaugurates Gyanodaya Exhibition 2024: A Celebration of Young Scientific Talent in A&N Islands

Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec 06: The Science Wing of Directorate of Education today organized Rajya Stariya Bal Vaigyanik Pradarshini (RSBVP-2024-25) under the banner ‘Gyanodaya’ in collaboration with Samagra Shiksha & DESM- NCERT New Delhi in the Auditorium of Govt. Girls Sr. Sec. School, Sri Vijaya Puram. The Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, IAS, as the chief guest inaugurated the two- day Exhibition by lighting the traditional oil lamp in the presence of the Commissioner-cum-Secretary (I/C), Shri A.S.P.S Raviprakash, IAS, Secretary (Edn.), Ms. Smitha R., IAS, Director (Edn.), Dr. Jatinder Sohal, Senior Officers of Education Department and students.
In his inaugural address, the Chief Secretary applauded the hard work and commitment of the students, teachers, parents and organizers to make this exhibition more innovative. He remarked that the exhibits displayed by the students reflects their imagination, their feeling for the future and how they want to solve the problems, be it about energy, waste management, simple creativity by using waste materials etc.
Mentioning about the advantages of Science, the Chief Secretary said, “Science helps us to make our life easy and comfortable. Scientific knowledge has to be utilized in such a way that it contributes for the welfare of humanity & protection of environment”.
The Chief Secretary further mentioned that the Exhibition is a great platform for the students to learn from each other. He also urged the students to interact with their fellow students to know about how they can find a solution for the problem of their respective area which has been depicted through the exhibits.
The Chief Secretary also went round the exhibition and saw the projects exhibited by the students. The students apprised about the projects on display. He also appreciated the teachers for encouraging and nurturing, the bright mind of the students.
Earlier, the Chief Secretary released the event’s souvenir, which contains some selected projects of the State Level Exhibition ‘Gyanodaya’.
In her welcome address, Secretary (Edn.) Ms. Smitha R informed that since the introduction of the exhibition, children are enthusiastic in participating and showcasing their creative and innovative projects. The objective of organizing the exhibition is to pursue the internal scientific curiosity of the young minds and to provide them a platform to showcase their creativity and innovation, she added.
The inaugural function concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by the Director (Edn.), Dr. Jatinder Sohal.
Later, Shri Debdas Paik, Scientist/ Engineer, ISRO, Sri Vijaya Puram gave a presentation on ISRO Satellites and Chandrayan launch. Altogether, 107 exhibits from different zones are participating, which was about nurturing curiosity, encouraging, exploration and celebrating diversity in expression. Flower arrangements and food corners also attracted the audience, parents, teachers and students.

 

Courage and Creativity: Differently-Abled Student Kumar Birbal Lohra Inspires with Endemic Species Models

Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec 06: In a world often defined by challenges, some individuals rise above their circumstances, becoming beacons of inspiration for others. One such story is that of a CwSN student named Kumar Birbal Lohra, a Class 10 student from GSSS Vijay Nagar, through his model titled ‘Endemic Species of A&N Islands’ in the Rajya Stariya Bal Vaigyanik Pradarshani has astounded everyone with his remarkable artistic talent. He has created impressive models using clay featuring countless species native to the A&N Islands, including the rare leatherback turtle found exclusively in Campbell Bay. Despite being unable to hear or speak, this talented student has found a powerful voice through his art, which speaks volumes about his passion and dedication.
His friend, Kumar Sagar acting as a mediator, shared that Birbal has a deep love for arts and excels in various forms such as drawing, painting, woodcraft and repurposing plastic waste into creative masterpieces. His exceptional work has earned him several accolades in school competitions, showcasing his ability to shine despite the odds.
Through sheer determination and hard work, Birbal single handedly crafted all the species displayed in the exhibition using locally available clay from Campbell Bay, disclosed his friend Sagar. Birbal’s creations not only celebrate the rich biodiversity of the Islands but also demonstrate his commitment to representing his school with pride. His participation in the State Level Exhibition ‘Gyanodaya’ being organised by Education Department of A&N Administration serves as a shining example of resilience, creativity and the extraordinary potential that lies within every individual, regardless of their challenges. Birbal’s journey is not just about overcoming a physical limitation; it is a testament to the power of determination, resilience and the human spirit. His artwork is on endemic species of A&N Islands viz. Nicobar Megapode, Reticulated Python, Leatherback Turtles, Saltwater Crocodiles, Nicobar Flying Fox, etc.
Birbal, a resident of Vijay Nagar is the son of Shri Dil Mohan Lohra, a Blacksmith.
Participating in Gyanodaya, this boy demonstrates that barriers are often mental constructs. By refusing to let his disability define his capabilities, he shows others that challenges can be stepping stones to greatness. Through his actions, Birbal creates a ripple effect, inspiring others to embrace their struggles and transform them into opportunities. His determination to pursue excellence not only reshapes his own life but also serves as a reminder that courage and perseverance have the potential to ignite change and foster hope in others.
This young competitor’s journey is a profound example of how one individual’s resolve can light the way for others, leaving an indelible impact on the world. His ability despite the challenges, serves as a source of inspiration and motivation to many countless children who are affected by some kind of disability.
Born with disability, but Birbal’s inclination towards studies did not deter him from pursuing his education. This young boy’s story not only reminds us that disability is part of life but it teaches us to find means and ways to overcome the odds with a positive mindset.

 

Member of Parliament Meets MHA Official, Seeks Resolution of Pressing Island Issues

Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec 06:Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, the Member of Parliament, A & N Islands yesterday (5th December 2024) met Mr. Ashutosh Agnihotri, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs and discussed on various burning issues pertaining to the Islands. Some of the important issues those were discussed include Land Conversion, Land regularization, pathetic condition of 32 jetties, Pre and post 1978 forest encroachments issue, implementation of Vivek Rae committee recommendations, PRI budget issues, Integrating ANIIMS with AIIMS, New Delhi, prevailing power crisis, Smart City project fund diversion among other issues.
The MP has informed that the Additional Secretary, MHA, will soon visit these Islands and will go to various parts of the Island territory to understand the ground reality. He also promised the MP that those issues which could be addressed at his level will be done soon.

The Armed Forces Flag Day is an occasion to pay our tributes towards the courage and dedication of our Armed Forces in defending our country.
Every year since 1949, 7th December is observed as Armed Forces Flag Day throughout the country to honour the valiant soldiers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the nation. It is also a day to remember and honor the widows and children of these brave soldiers, who have been left behind while their loved ones safeguarded our freedom. The A & N Islands will also observe this day as per tradition, with deep respect and commitment.
To Mark this occasion, Rajya Sainik Board, Sri Vijaya Puram will be distributing Flag Day stickers and token flags in exchange of generous voluntary donations to Armed Forces Flag Day Fund. The fund is meant for rehabilitation, welfare of soldiers, veterans, and families of servicemen who have lost their lives in service to the nation.
On this occasion, of the Armed Forces Flag Day 2024, I extend my warm greetings and good wishes to all Armed Force Personnel, veterans and their families. I also urge all Islanders to contribute to the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund as a gesture of solidarity towards our brave Armed Force Personnel & their families.

A&N Islands Clinches No.1 Spot for the Seventh Time in 2024, Achieving a Remarkable Milestone on the CCTNS PRAGATI Dashboard for October

Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec 06:The Andaman and Nicobar Islands have once again set a benchmark in excellence, claiming the top position (98.47%) among Union Territories in the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS) PRAGATI Dashboard for October 2024. This marks the seventh time this year that the Union Territory has achieved this distinction, reflecting its unwavering commitment in enhancing digitization in policing.
This system is administered by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), New Delhi. The CCTNS is a flagship initiative of the Ministry of Home Affairs and is regularly monitored by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India through the PRAGATI Dashboard. This national platform evaluates the performance of States and Union Territories in managing crime data, underscoring their efficiency, commitment, and progressive strides in crime prevention and detection.
The success of the Andaman and Nicobar Police is a testament to their relentless dedication and innovation. Their consistent efforts have propelled the Union Territory to this remarkable achievement, reinforcing their position as a leader in adopting and leveraging technology for effective policing.
The Andaman and Nicobar Islands’ consistent top performance on the CCTNS PRAGATI Dashboard highlights the exemplary role of the Andaman & Nicobar Police in integrating technology with law enforcement, setting a standard for other regions to emulate. This achievement is a reflection of the dedication and hard work of the CCTNS team and the entire Andaman and Nicobar Police force, paving the way for a safer, more efficient, and technology-driven policing ecosystem.

Breaking Barriers: B Neelaiah Achieves Milestone at the 18th Asian Schools Chess Championship 2024

Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec 06:In a ground-breaking achievement for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. B Neelaiah, a highly esteemed FIDE Arbiter, is officiating at the illustrious 18th Asian Schools Chess Championship 2024 in Bangkok, Thailand, from December 1-11, 2024. This historic event marks Mr. Neelaiah as the first arbiter from the Islands to officiate at such a prestigious international platform.
Mr. Neelaiah’s appointment is a testament to his unparalleled expertise, unwavering dedication, and significant contributions to chess officiating. Earlier this year, he successfully cleared the International Arbiter (IA) Exam and achieved his first IA Norm. He further secured his second norm while officiating at the World Junior Chess Championship 2024 in Gujarat this June. His role in the ongoing Asian Schools Chess Championship will earn him his third IA Norm, propelling him closer to the coveted International Arbiter title, which requires five norms.
“This achievement reflects Mr. Neelaiah’s relentless hard work and commitment to the sport. His selection as an arbiter on the international stage is a matter of immense pride for the Islands,” said Mr. C.S. INTACH Andaman and Nicobar Chapter celebrates World Soil day – 5th December 2024

Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec 06:INTACH Andaman and Nicobar Chapter celebrated the World Soil day at Govt. Middle School, Dignabad with 30 students.
Samhita Veda Acharya, Convenor gave a short lecture on the importance of soil and its conservation followed by an interactive session where the children were made to understand the importance of endemic species, as well as the natural heritage of the islands. The geological sites of the islands were also discussed as well as students came up with names of birds, animals that they observe around.
The children were given stationary and crayons to make sketches of flora and fauna they have observed in the islands. The entries were later collected by INTACH for further evaluation and three winners would be announced soon.
The event was made possible with the support of the Headmistress Madam, Smti. K.S. Bindu and Rizwan Sir. Mr. Sajit Jaina was the INTACH Volunteer who coordinated the entire event.

A&N Islands Salutes Armed Forces: Lt. Governor Appeals for Generous Contributions to Flag Day Fund

Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec 06:The Flag Day is commemorated on Dec.7 every year in India. The day is observed to salute the gallant soldiers, honour the braves, express solidarity and support for welfare of ex-servicemen & their dependents. The Day is intended to honour the valiant and dead, to salute the veterans and brave and to enhance the traditional bonds that exist between citizens of the country and the Armed Forces. On this day, the services rendered by personnel of Army, Navy and Air Force are remembered. Rajya /Zilla Sainik Boards observe this day to enlist public cooperation and support for three basic purposes – Rehabilitation of families of battle casualties; Welfare of serving personnel and their families and Resettlement and welfare of ex-Servicemen and their families in general.
The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of A&N Islands & Vice Chairman, Islands Development Agency, Admiral D K Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.) has appealed to all the citizens to contribute generously to the Flag Day Fund. The collections made on this day are pooled into one fund known as Armed Forces Flag Day (AFFD) & the fund money is used for the cause of well being of the ex-Servicemen and their dependents and for the welfare and rehabilitation of ex-servicemen community.
On this day, students, citizens and volunteer organisations etc. collect donations in exchange of Token Flags and Car Stickers throughout the country, which are distributed to the public through Rajya/Zila Sainik Boards of the States/UTs. A concerted effort is made on this day to raise as much as collection from the public. The significance of the day is to bring home the potential donors in a variety of ways. The Token Flags are being distributed to various Schools/Colleges/PSUs and Government Organizations/Departments by A&N Rajya Sainik Board, Sri Vijaya Puram for raising funds for the well being & welfare schemes to assist the ex-servicemen, disabled soldiers, their widows and dependents of those who sacrificed their lives for the Nation.
In this regard, citizens have been requested to send their precious contributions through Cheques/Draft in favour of the ‘Armed Forces Flag Day Fund A & N Islands’ to Secretary, Rajya Sainik Board, Veer Senani Bhavan, Haddo, P.O Sri Vijaya Puram – 744102 or by depositing the amount in AFFD Account No. 10605083942 (IFSC Code SBIN0000156).

SSC Exams 2024 Scheduled for December 9-11: e-Admit Cards to Be Released Soon

Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec 06: The Staff Selection Commission is going to conduct Combined Hindi Translator Examination, 2024 on Dec. 9 and the Stenographer Grade ‘C’ & ‘D’ Examination, 2024 on Dec. 10 & 11 at Sri Vijava Puram Examination Centre(s). The e-Admit Card of the candidates appearing for the examination will he made available 3-4 days prior to the scheduled examination date on the website of the Commission (https://ssc.gov.in/ or https://sscer.org/).

 

Yuva Utsav 2024: A Platform for Young Talent to Shine

Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec 06: As part of Yuva Utsav 2024, a Declamation Competition and a Painting Competition were organized today at the Auditorium of Tagore Government College of Education (TGCE) in association with TGCE. The event saw active participation from youth, with 45 participants in the Painting Competition and 20 in the Declamation Contest.

The Chief Guest, Mr. Naresh Chander Lal, Padmashree Awardee and Swachh Bharat Ambassador, addressed the gathering on the Viksit Bharat Mission and highlighted the significant role of youth in shaping a developed India. He motivated the participants to use their talent and creativity for the nation’s progress while emphasizing the importance of cleanliness and civic responsibility.

The Declamation Contest was judged by Dr. Nripendra Singh, Dr. Ch. Hemanta, a renowned multilingual scholar and National Literature Awardee 2024, and Smti Shabnam Singh, a social activist. The Painting Competition was evaluated by Dr. Rakha Vaidaiy, A. Shivini Rao, and Mr. D. Dilleswar Rao, all acclaimed artists. The judges provided valuable feedback to the participants, appreciating their creativity and skill.

The program began with Mr. Sukh Ranjan Biswas, DD (OSD) with additional charge of Nehru Yuva Kendra, Sri Vijaya Puram, welcoming the Chief Guest with a traditional shawl and explaining the aims and objectives of Yuva Utsav, which seeks to empower youth and foster leadership. Mr. Gopal Ch. Biswas of Nehru Yuva Kendra coordinated the event and proposed vote of thanks.

The celebration served as a platform to inspire and engage young talent, fostering a sense of responsibility and creativity toward nation-building.
