Sri Vijaya Puram, December 05: Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK), Sri Vijaya Puram, launched the District-Level Yuva Utsav 2024 at Tagore Government College of Education, Middle Point, Sri Vijaya Puram. The event, aimed at fostering creativity, leadership, and social responsibility among the youth, is being held under the overarching theme of Panch Pran, focusing on building a developed and united India.
The lineup for District-Level Yuva Utsav 2024 includes:
1. Science Mela Exhibition (Group and Individual Events)
2. Young Artists Camp (Painting Competition)
3. Young Writers Camp (Poetry Writing)
4. Photography Workshop
5. Declamation Contest
6. Cultural Festival (Group Events Only)
Yesterday, the Photography Workshop and Young Artists Camp and Poetry Writing competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from around 60 young individuals.
The Chief Guest, Ms. Jagtap Kalyani Rajendra (DANICS, 2021), currently serving as Director (Fisheries) and Joint CPA in the UT Administration, delivered an inspiring speech on the role and responsibilities of youth in building a developed Bharat (Vikshit Bharat). She also recited a heartfelt poem on the theme of Panch Pran, emphasizing the importance of youth involvement in nation-building.
The Guest of Honor, Dr. Manju Lata Rai, Principal of Tagore Government College of Education, highlighted the importance of such platforms in nurturing creativity and leadership among the youth.

Biswas of Nehru Yuva Kendra, APA, proposed the vote of thanks and ensured seamless coordination of the event.
The concluding function and prize distribution ceremony for District-Level Yuva Utsav 2024 will take place on 9th December 2024 at Tagore Government College of Education. On this day, the Science Exhibition and Cultural Festival will be held, while the Declamation Contest and Painting Competition are scheduled for 6th December 2024.
Yuva Utsav 2024 continues to inspire and empower young participants in Sri Vijaya Puram, highlighting their creative potential and commitment to nation-building.

Applications Invited for Food and General Stalls at Island Tourism Festival 2024
Port Blair, Dec 05: Applications have been invited from the interested entrepreneurs/firms/individuals for allotment of Food/General stalls during Island Tourism Festival-2024 which is to be held from Dec. 27 to 31, 2024 for 5 days at ITF Ground. The stall will be allotted to the selected applicants on lottery system as per the terms and condition laid down in the application form.
The filled-in application form (Annexure-I), signed copy of terms and conditions alongwith prescribed rent and Security Deposit for allotment of stalls i.e., general items/food stalls is to be submitted to Planning Section, Directorate of IP&T on or before Dec. 6, 2024 by 3 PM. Awareness Drive Highlights Women’s Rights Under POSH Act and Domestic Violence Law
Port Blair, Dec 05: The Directorate of Social Welfare, in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), A&N Islands, conducted an awareness program at the Directorate of Education Office yesterday on Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal) Act, 2013 (POSH Act) and Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005.
Ms. Anoushka Singh, Advocate and Resource Person from DLSA, delivered an insightful session on the key provisions of the POSH Act, emphasizing the importance of workplace safety and mechanisms to prevent harassment. She also explained the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, highlighting the rights of victims and the legal remedies available to them.
The staff of the Directorate of Education actively participated in the program, showcasing keen interest in understanding the laws and their practical application.
This initiative, organized as part of the campaign for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, aimed to promote awareness about women’s legal rights and the measures to protect them from violence and harassment.
World Soil Day Celebrated in Car Nicobar, Emphasizing Sustainable Soil Management
Port Blair, Dec 05: The Department of Agriculture, Car Nicobar organized World Soil Day today at Govt. Senior Secondary School Sawai, Car Nicobar. This year the theme is ‘Caring for Soils: Measure, Monitor, Manage’. Smti. R. Bhu Bharthy, Agriculture Officer welcomed the gathering and briefed about the importance of World Soil Day and emphasized on the theme that there is need for accurate soil data to guide sustainable soil management practices. Shri Abdul Hameed, Agriculture Field Assistant explained about the Soil biodiversity, its significance and need for its conservation, also about the role of soil organisms behind the transformations of nutrients that make them available to plants.
Miss V.M. Mubashira Begum, Agriculture Technology Manager briefed about Soil Management and adoption of scientific practices. Smt. Sameena Banu, PGT, GSSS Sawai encouragement to students and asked them to spread awareness about soil health and management among their family and community. Around 86 students of Class VI to XII along with teachers of GSSS Sawai attended the programme.
Training Programme Promotes Women’s Role in Gram Sabha Decision-Making
Port Blair, Dec 05: A Block-Level Training Programme on ‘Promoting Women’s Participation in the Decision-Making Process in Gram Sabha’ was successfully organized at the Conference Hall of Gram Panchayat, Rampur, under the Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (RGSA). This initiative aimed to empower women and ensure their active engagement in grassroots governance.
The programme began with a warm welcome address by Miss Anindita Dutta, Extension Officer, who emphasized the importance of the occasion in building inclusive governance. This initiative highlights a step toward achieving gender equity and enhancing women’s roles in local governance. By empowering women to actively participate in decision-making processes, the program contributes to building more inclusive and equitable governance systems.

Excursion to Wandoor Celebrates Inclusivity and Joy on International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2024
Sri Vijaya Puram, 4th December 2024: The Composite Regional Centre (CRC), A&N Islands, organized a heart-warming excursion to Wandoor Beach for special children and their families to commemorate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) 2024. The event, centered on the theme “Special Children—Inclusivity and Joy”, was generously sponsored by Mr. Aziz Ur Rahman, Councillor of Ward No. 6 and State President of the Atal Foundation A&N,Mr. Mohammed Shabbir Hussain, President of Tourism Association of Andaman & Nicobar Islands (TAAN) & Mrs. Faridha Bibi, Secretary-cum-Director of Hope Foundation.
The event highlighted the motto of celebrating the diversity and abilities of special children. It created an environment of happiness and belonging, making the day truly memorable for all participants. A series of engaging activities were organized, including;Beach Games: Sandcastle building, tug-of-war, and other team activities designed to encourage interaction and teamwork & Community Lunch: A shared meal fostering conversations, connections, and shared joy.
