Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec 02: To enhance the compensation provided to victims of hit-and-run motor accidents, a special camp was organized at the Office of the Tehsildar, Sri Vijaya Puram on 30th November 2024. This initiative aimed to assist victims or their legal representatives involved in hit-and-run incidents since 1st April 2022. A total of 03 applications were submitted during the camp. The camp was conducted in partnership with local administrative officials to ensure compliance with procedural norms.
The camp provided an effective platform to address the grievances of hit-and-run accident victims, promoting awareness and enabling access to compensation mechanisms. The submitted applications will now undergo further verification for the timely disbursal of compensation, in accordance with government norms.
This initiative reflects the commitment of local authorities to safeguarding the rights and welfare of victims, ensuring timely assistance and financial support.

Prothrapur Block Empowers Rural Women and Children with Training Programs Under RGSA Initiative
Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec 02: The Community Development Block Prothrapur under the Directorate of RD, PRIs & ULBs, A&N Administration organized two training programs under the Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (RGSA) to encourage active participation of rural SHG women and children in planning & decision making process for holistic development of the Gram Panchayat.
First training was organized on Nov. 25 at community hall of Gram Panchayat Calicut on the topic ‘Addressing Child Needs through Bal Sabha’ in the presence of Shri. T Yaghabaram, Pradhan Gram Panchayat Calicut, Smti. Gurjeet Kaur, Block Development Officer, PRI members of GP Calicut and Block Officials. Students of Govt. Secondary School, Calicut and DDU-GKY trainees of Aruthal Foundation Trust also participated in the training. Smt. Zarina Bibi, CDPO, Social Welfare Department and Smt. Ankita Saha & Ms. Kiran Bhagwat, officials from District Child Protection Unit, South Andaman were the resource persons for the program. Shri Ashish Shekhar, Panchayat Secretary also sensitized the participants on the importance of addressing child needs through Bal Sabha. The second training was conducted on Nov. 26 in the conference hall of Panchayat Samiti Office, Prothrapur marking a significant step towards empowering rural women to participate in Panchayat development. The members of Block Level Federation representing their Self Help Groups (SHGs) & Village Level Organizations formed under NRLM scheme participated in the program along with Community Resource Persons (CRPs).
The BDO, CD Block Prothrapur, Smt. Gurjeet Kaur, as the resource person highlighted the importance & crucial role of rural women in grassroots governance and their contributions for sustainable development of Gram Panchayats. The trainings organized by the CD Block Prothrapur under RGSA focused to address the challenges faced by rural women and children, implementing strategies for their empowerment and supporting policies and laws that promote women’s & children’s participation in decision making in panchayat development and create a more equitable & just society.
Ferrargunj Panchayat Leads Beach Cleanliness Drive at Shoal Bay-19 to Promote Coastal Conservation
Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec 02: The Panchayat Samiti Office, Ferrargunj rganized a Beach Cleanliness Drive at Shoal Bay-19 on Nov. 30. This initiative was part of the broader efforts to promote environmental awareness and preserve the natural beauty of our coastal areas. The event was conducted in the presence of Executive Officer, Smti Lalita Tigga, Pramukh, Smti D. Padmawathi, Up-Pramukh, Shri Simson, Pradhan, Shoal Bay, Shri A. R. Kumar and Panchayat Samiti Members of Kanyapuram, Wimberlygunj, Bambooflat-II, Shoal Bay, Mannarghat, Mithakhari.
The drive also witnessed enthusiastic participation from staff of Panchayat Samiti Office, Ferrargunj. A total of 30 bags of waste including 22 bags of plastic, disposal glasses, tin cans, paper plates and other plastic items and 8 bags of glass bottles were collected during the drive. The Panchayat Samiti also conducted a short awareness session during the event, educating participants about the harmful effects of plastic pollution and the importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling waste.
“Beaches are the pride of our region and a lifeline for biodiversity. Together, we can ensure that our beaches remain pristine for generations to come”. This initiative is a step towards building a cleaner and greener future for our community. The Panchayat Samiti plans to organize more such events and encourages everyone to actively participate in future cleanliness drives.
Nehru Yuva Kendra, Kamorta Organizes ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ Plantation Drive
Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec 02: The Nehru Yuva Kendra, Kamorta in coordination with the Forest Department, Kamorta organized Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam – Plant 4 Mother Campaign, a mass plantation drive at various villages of Kamorta and Nancowrie Islands from the month of October to November, 2024. During the campaign a total of 250 saplings have been planted by involving the officials of the Forest Department, Kamorta and youths of the respective villages. The campaigns were also participated by the captains of the respective villages. The campaign aims to raise awareness and inspire the public in general, particularly the youth, to plant saplings in the name of their mother.
Moreover, awareness generation activities were also organized. Under the generation activities administering pledge, behavioural change and knowledge competitions were also organized.
Foundation Day of Nagaland and Assam celebrates at Raj Niwas
Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec 02: As part of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ initiative and as per directives of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India, the Foundation Day of Nagaland and Assam was celebrated enthusiastically at Raj Niwas. Persons hailing from Nagaland and Assam participated in the function. During the event, an interaction and experience sharing session was also conducted. A short documentary on Nagaland and Assam were screened. The function ended with high tea, group photograph and presentation of mementos to invitees.
The participants thanked MHA, Govt. of India and Raj Niwas for the initiative and for providing them opportunities and platform for interaction.
