Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov 25: The ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), North & Middle Andaman, celebrated World Fisheries Day on November 21st, 2024, at the Fish Landing Centre, Betapur in collaboration with Department of Fisheries, Fisheries Substation, Billiground. The program focused on the critical importance of sustainable fisheries, conservation of aquatic ecosystems, and safeguarding the livelihoods of fishing communities. The program was inaugurated by Mr. Tapan Kumar Biswas, Assistant Director of Fisheries, North & Middle Andaman district. In his inaugural address, he emphasized the significance of World Fisheries Day in promoting sustainable fisheries and acknowledged the pivotal role of the fishing community in food security. He also encouraged the fishermen to utilize various schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana to improve their livelihoods and adopt sustainable practices, fostering long-term growth and resilience in the fisheries sector. Mr. Subam Debroy, SMS (Fisheries Science), emphasized the need for adopting eco-friendly fishing practices to curb the overexploitation of marine ecosystems and maintain ecological balance. He stressed the importance of adhering to appropriate mesh size regulations and observing fishing bans during the monsoon season to give fish the opportunity to breed at least once in their lifetime, ensuring the sustainability of marine resources. Furthermore, he highlighted the significance of prioritizing aquaculture as a sustainable and scalable solution to address the growing global demand for food while reducing pressure on natural fish stocks. Mr. Rakesh Dawar, SMS (Agronomy), emphasized the significance of World Fisheries Day in raising awareness about sustainable fisheries management. He urged fishermen to leverage resources and opportunities provided by the dedicated fisheries ministry to improve their livelihoods. Mr. Yatharth Sharma, SMS (Home Science), discussed the critical aspects of post-harvest processing and value addition in the fisheries sector. Earlier, Mr. Sanjib Kumar Sutradhar, Fisheries Inspector (Billiground Substation) welcomed the participants and provided an overview of the program. The program was organized under the overall guidance of Dr. Eaknath B. Chakurkar, Director of ICAR-CIARI, Sri Vijayapuram. About 22Fisherman participated and benefited from the program.

Three days Training on Programmatic Mapping and Population Size Estimation (PMPSE) of HRGs and Bridge Population organized by A&N AIDS Control Society (ANACS) at Ayush Hospital, Sri Vijaya Puram
Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov 25: Three days Training on Programmatic Mapping and Population Size Estimation (PMPSE) for mapping HRGs ( Female Sex Workers, Men Having Sex with Men, Transgender/ Hijras) and Bridge Population ( Migrant Labours & Truckers) organized by A&N AIDS Control Society (ANACS) from 20th to 22nd November, 2024 in the conference hall of Ayush Hospital, Junglighat, Sri Vijaya Puram, for the official & staff of NGO Jan Lok Kalyan Parishad (JLKP) and ANACS under the Target Intervention training programme, around 27 participants were benefitted from this training programme.
Dr. Subrata Saha, Project Director ANACS graced the program as Chief Guest and inaugurated the training, in his key note address, he briefed on the objective and importance of the training Programmatic Mapping and Population Size Estimation to achieve the exact field data.
The participants were earlier welcomed by Mr. Arup Kumar Roy, Deputy Director, Prevention.
The training session included overview of PMPSE for High Risk Groups and clients of sex workers, roles and responsibilities for implementation of PMPSE, community engagement, Ethical considerations, Method and data collection tools for physical hotspots and Network Operator and Data Management using the web Portal (IESE).
The resource person were Dr. Alok Kumar Deb, Scientist G & Nodal Person, NACO RI(E) ICMR-NIRBI, Dr. Mitali Sen, Project Coordinator NACO RI(E) ICMR-NIRBI, Mr. Lalit Singh Kharayat from NACO, Mr. Arup Kumar Roy, Deputy Director, Prevention and Mr. S Senthil Nathan, AD-CST from ANACS.

Blood Donation Camp by A&N NCC Units
Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov 25: As part of the celebration of NCC Day, the Andaman and Nicobar NCC units organized a blood donation camp at JNRM, Sri Vijaya Puram on 25th Nov 2024. The initiative witnessed enthusiastic participation from senior cadets of the Army and Naval wings, who demonstrated their commitment to community service by donating blood.
This noble effort highlights the values instilled by the NCC, focusing on selfless service and social responsibility. The event aims to inspire others to contribute to community welfare while emphasizing the importance of blood donation in saving lives.
