Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov 18: The Pahargaon Police Station under leadership of Inspr. Mohd Elias, SHO PS Pahargaon, has achieved a significant breakthrough in its investigation of an NDPS Act case registered on 28.10.2024. The case pertains to the seizure of 2.075 kg of illicit Ganja and the arrest of five individuals involved in the illegal drug trade.
Initially On 28/10/2024, upon receipt of credible information, a raid was conducted at Jodakilan by team of PS Pahargaon led by Insp Mohd Elias, SHO PS Pahargaon that resulted in arrest of 03 accused persons and seizure of around 1.775 kgs of Illicit Ganja. Based on the raid, a case was registered at PS Pahargaon and an investigation was initiated. During investigation additional 300 gms of illicit Ganja was recovered from the arrested accused persons. A deeper detailed interrogation revealed names of 02 more accused persons, who were responsible in procuring, transporting and importing the Illicit Ganja from the mainland. The same persons were traced and arrested.
During the course of the investigation, it was revealed that one of the accused Vinith Kumar had been working in close collaboration with another individual R. Vijaya Kumar, a resident of Koilambakkam, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, who was the main supplier in this chain of supply and distribution of the illicit Ganja. Acting on this information, a police team comprising Sub-Inspector Manish Narayan and ASI B. Semaiah from Pahargaon Police Station was deputed to Tamil Nadu to locate and apprehend the accused.
After thorough efforts, the police team successfully arrested R. Vijaya Kumar on November 14, 2024, in Chennai. He was subsequently produced before the JMFC-II Court in Alandur, Chennai, where a transit remand was obtained. The accused was brought to Port Blair on November 15, 2024, and presented before the Court of Special Judge (NDPS) in Port Blair, which granted police custody for further investigation.
This arrest highlights the commitment of the PS Pahargaon in curbing the menace of drug trafficking and ensuring the safety and security of the region. The accused is currently in police custody, and further investigation into the case is underway.
The entire raid was conducted under the supervision of Miss Anushtha Kalia, IPS, SDPO (SA), and the overall supervision of Mrs. Niharika Bhatt, IPS, SP(D), South Andaman.

MP Bishnu Pada Ray Meets Ranchi Community in Little Andaman, Assures Action on Grievances
Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov 18: Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, Member of Parliament, A & N Islands, is currently on a visit to Little Andaman. During his visit he held a meeting today with the Ranchi Community members at Hut Bay APWD guest house.
During the interaction Mr. Ray informed the Ranchi Community members that the issue regarding inclusion of their community under OBC category in the Islands is actively being considered by the Central Government. He also heard the general grievances of the community people and local problems.
He also interacted with local BJP workers regarding organizational matters.
After hearing the grievances put forth by the local people he assured them that he will take up the matters at the appropriate forums to get it resolved.
Bharatiya Janata Party Andaman & Nicobar Islands Calls for Adequate Compensation for Victims of Mayabunder STS Bus Accident
Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov 18 : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Andaman & Nicobar Islands, has made an urgent appeal to the Hon’ble Lt. Governor of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands to provide adequate compensation and financial support to the victims of the tragic STS bus accident that occurred on 15 November 2024 in the Mayabunder area. The accident claimed the lives of four individuals and left over 18 others injured, many of whom are in critical condition and undergoing medical treatment.
In a letter addressed to the Lt. Governor, State BJP President Shri Ajoy Bairagi highlighted the profound grief and financial difficulties faced by the bereaved families and injured victims.
The BJP has requested the following measures to provide relief to the affected families:
1. Ex-gratia compensation of ₹5 lakhs to the families of the deceased to support them in coping with their loss.
2. Financial assistance of ₹1 lakh for those injured in the accident to cover medical expenses and rehabilitation costs.
Shri Ajoy Bairagi emphasized that such support would not only assist the victims and their families during this challenging time but also reinforce public trust in the administration’s commitment to their welfare.
“The affected families are enduring immense emotional and financial hardships due to this unfortunate tragedy. We trust that the administration will act swiftly and compassionately to extend the necessary support,” said Shri Bairagi.

Bambooflat Police Solve Night Burglary Case within 24 Hours, Recover Stolen Gold and Cash
Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov 18: In a swift and commendable operation, the team of PS Bambooflat, led by SHO Inspector Rizwan Hassan, successfully solved a burglary case reported on 17th November 2024. The incident involved the theft of gold and cash from the Ram Mandir Complex at Chunnabhatta.
Upon registration of the case, the Investigation Officer, SI PK Jabbar (I.O.), assisted by a special team comprising SI Manoj Lal, HC/588 Zubair, PC/586 Suresh, PC/1193 Naushadu, and IRBn CT/428 Basheer, was tasked with solving the case. Utilizing intelligence inputs and technical surveillance, the team apprehended the accused, T.K Jagdish, a resident of Kalapathar, Ferrargunj, who was duly arrested.
The stolen gold and cash were successfully recovered and seized following all codal formalities. Investigations revealed that the accused has a prior criminal record, including one theft case and three excise-related cases.
This operation was supervised by Mr. Brij Mohan Meena, DANIPS, SDPO Bambooflat, under the overall guidance of Mrs. Niharika Bhatt, IPS, SP South Andaman.

ANTCC President Urges Chief Engineer, APWD to Address the Deteriorated Rural Road from Danapur Junction to Karmatang X, Mayabunder
Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov 18: The Andaman Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee President Mr. Rangalal Halder has raised an appeal to the Chief Engineer, APWD for immediate repair and maintenance of the rural road connecting Danapur Junction to Karmatang X under Mayabunder Tehsil, North Andaman.
In his letter, Mr. Halder highlighted the alarming condition of this vital road, which has become nearly impassable due to years of neglect. “The road is riddled with potholes and uneven surfaces, causing immense inconvenience and damage to vehicles. In several stretches, erosion has made the road dangerously narrow, especially during the rainy season, posing serious risks to commuters and local residents,” he said.
He emphasized that this road serves as a lifeline for the region, connecting numerous villages to essential services such as schools, hospitals, and marketplaces. “The poor condition of this road has severely impacted the daily lives of the people, hampering access to education, healthcare, and economic activities. It is unacceptable that such a crucial route remains in this state,” Mr. Halder stated.
He further urged the Chief Engineer to prioritize the repair and maintenance of the road to ensure it meets safety and accessibility standards.
ICAR-KVK, Nimbudera organizes field day on “Air layering/ Gootee techniques in horticultural crops”
Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov 18: ICAR-KVK, Nimbudera, (ICAR-CIARI) N& M Andaman organized a field day on Air layering/ Gootee techniques in horticultural crops at farmers field at Janakpur village, Rangat on 13th November, 2024.Dr. V. Damodaran, Senior Scientist and Head of KVK Nimbudera, provided the practical demonstration of the air layering techniques in lemon, guava, and cinnamon plants. He illustrated the benefits of these techniques in improving plant propagation, ensuring the conservation of desirable plant characteristics and enhancing crop yield. The demonstration underscored air layering as a practical, cost-effective technique, especially valuable for crops that are challenging to propagate from seeds or traditional cuttings. Mr. Rakesh Dawar, SMS provided insights into the air layering technique, emphasizing its effectiveness in propagating healthy, mature plants with high survival rates. A total of 15 farmers and farmwomen participated, gained practical knowledge on the implementation of air layering techniques. The program was organized under the overall guidance of Dr. Eaknath B. Chakurkar, Director of ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair.
