Zonal Level Science, Arts, and Craft Exhibition Held

Diglipur, Nov. 12: The Zonal Level Science, Arts, and Craft Exhibition, Gyanodaya 2024-25 was inaugurated at Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Diglipur today.
The event was formally inaugurated in the morning hours today by Shri Kamleshwar Rao S, (IAS), Assistant Commissioner, Diglipur as the Chief Guest while the Guest of Honour was Shri. Dipankar Mistry, Pramukh Diglipur and Shri PR Singa Ram was the Special Guest on the occasion.
Smti. Sulochana, DEO, Diglipur welcomed the guests and addressed the gathering on the occasion. The Chief Guest as well as other guests interacted with students during the exhibits presentation. The Assistant Commissioner appreciated and motivated the students for their model and exhibits.
All the five CRC participated in the event, 12 judges submitted their judgment sheet to the DEO’s Office, Diglipur.
The program was concluded with the vote of thanks given by Shri Subhendu Halder, PGT, GSSS Diglipur, the school’s official source said.
Awareness on Best management practices in livestock & poultry, at Regional Station Minicoy, Lakshadweep of ICAR- CIARI conducts
Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov 12: Regional Station, Minicoy of ICAR-CIARI Port Blair conducted a “Awareness on Best management practices in livestock & poultry” for the welfare of tribal livestock farmers of Lakshadweep from 11th November 2024.
Speaking on this occasion, Dr. Sujatha T., Principal Scientist, ICAR-CIARI, Mr. Vijaya Puram explained best management practices in livestock & poultry. She focused on scientific poultry farming, feeding management, emphases on suitable varieties in Island condition, disease surveillance and vaccination schedule and traditional health management. The scientific staff of Regional station Minicoy, Dr. Gladston Y. and Dr. Ajina S. M. interacted with farmers on problems and solutions during livestock and poultry farming. The farmers got exposed to Konkan Kanyal goats, non-descriptive goats, layer & broiler poultry, ducks & quail which were maintained at the farm. Mr. Shareefuddeen Hassan, Technical Officer and Mr. Arif M.I., Senior Technician and the Coordinator of the programme informed about the technical know-how and how to teach the participants in ‘Mahl’ (the local language).
Subsequently one hands on-training on poultry feed preparation by using locally available feed ingredients such as maize, rice, coconut and residues of tuna masmin preparation and shell grits.
At the end inputs such as vitamin-mineral mixture distributed in presence of Dr. Hussain Augae (Rtd. Veterinary Surgeon, Minicoy) to farmers from different clusters of villages (18 Male & 2 Female). A total of 26people attended the program.

ABVP Study Circle held at Ramakrishna Mission
Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov 12: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad Sri Vijaya Puram Unit of A&N Islands organized a study circle on 10.11.2024 at Ramakrishna Mission, Sri Vijaya Puram. The study circle brings together students from various colleges and ABVP karyakartas from the Mr. Vijayapuram region. This unique gathering was held in the presence of revered Chief Guest Swami Om kar atmanandan Maharaj, ABVP President Mr. Tejinder Singh, and ABVP Secretary Satyajit Halder, creating an atmosphere of unity and inspiration.
The program commenced with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony conducted by Swamiji Maharaj, symbolizing the dispelling of darkness and the awakening of knowledge. Following this, a floral tribute was offered to portraits of revered figures, setting a respectful tone for the event.
Mr. Tejinder Singh, ABVP President then extended a warm welcome to the gathering. His words emphasized the importance of collaborative learning and the role of students and young leaders in shaping a positive, knowledgeable society.
Swami Maharaj, Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission, Sri Vijayapuram then led a meditation session with all participants, fostering a sense of mindfulness and internal focus. This collective meditation encouraged participants to reflect deeply on the topics that would be discussed during the study circle.
The study circle, aptly named “Gyanam,” centered around a discourse by Maharaj on Swami Vivekananda’s transformative ideas on education. Maharaj discussed how Vivekananda’s vision emphasized character building, self-confidence, and moral values as the core of true education. He spoke passionately on how education should aim to empower individuals, equipping them to contribute positively to society.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Satyajit Halder, who expressed gratitude to Swami Maharaj and Dr Kandimuthu, ABVP pramukh whose inspiration led the study circle and ended with a meaningful and insightful experience. His closing remarks emphasized ABVP’s commitment to fostering educational dialogues that inspire and motivate young minds. The whole event was coordinated by Mr. Kunal Bain, Joint Secretary , ABVP, Sri Vijayapuram.
Block-Level Training Empowers Rural Women to Engage in Panchayat Development
Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov 12: A Block-Level Training Session on ‘Strengthening of Institutions of the Poor – Empowering Rural Women to Participate in Panchayat Development’ was held yesterday at CMTC Building, Ferrargunj. The event was aimed at educating and empowering rural women, especially Elected Women Representatives (EWRs) and Community Resource Persons (CRPs) with essential knowledge and skills to actively engage in Panchayat development.
Earlier, Smti Lalita Tigga, BDO, Ferrargunj welcomed the gathering. Ms. C. Vijaya, a domain expert from the Department of RD introduced the session and discussed the significance of women’s active involvement in Panchayat affairs. She highlighted the transformative impact women leaders can have within their communities and stated that this initiative seeks to create a more inclusive, participatory and sustainable model for grassroots governance that place women at the heart of rural development. Ms. Agnes Bartholoma, Sub Inspector at PS Ograbraj, conducted an informative session on legal aspects and criminal laws concerning women.
This was followed by an enlightening talk by Smti Shanti Murugesan, In-charge of the One Stop Center (OSC) under the Directorate of Social Welfare. She highlighted the critical role played by OSC in supporting women facing violence and other forms of abuse. Ms Mariyam Bibi, Zilla Parishad Member, Hope Town/Bambooflat spoke on women empowerment and the Panchayati Raj System.

Eviction Drive Clears Unauthorized Encroachments in Kishorinagar, Diglipur Tehsil
Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov 12: An eviction drive was conducted today in Kishorinagar under Diglipur Tehsil, removing unauthorized encroachments on Government revenue land. During the drive, fresh encroached areas, including plantations of areca nut, coconut, banana saplings, and vegetables, were removed to restore the land to its rightful state. The eviction effort covered approximately 2.50 hectares from Survey No. 438/1, which has now been fully cleared and returned to its original condition.
The District Administration, N&M Andaman emphasizes that encroachments on Government land are taken seriously and will be met with firm action to ensure compliance with land use regulations. Regular monitoring will continue to prevent further unauthorized use of public land. The Administration has urged the citizens to respect public land boundaries to promote orderly and sustainable development in the District.
Agriculture Department Hosts Exposure Visit for Women SHGs to Promote Value Addition in Agriculture
Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov 12: The Agriculture Department, South Andaman Zone in association with UTATMA organized an exposure visit under the Central Sector Scheme Extension (ATMA Scheme) today. The members of Women Self Help Groups from Ferrargunj Block and Prothrapur Block visited the Departmental Fruit Preservation Unit, Haddo and briefed on the functioning of the Unit and the importance of value addition of fruits and vegetables to enhance the income.
Addressing the gathering, the Joint Director (Agri.), HQ, Shri Ramesh Kumar highlighted the mandate of the FP Unit of the Department and also stressed the importance of value addition for self employment and income generation. The Joint Director emphasized that FSSAI Certification is mandatory for recognition of the quality of their produce which will provide them better marketability of their products and therefore advised them to get registered with FSSAI for their produce.
Dr. S.C Rekha, Assistant Director (Agri.),HQ highlighted the importance of maintaining hygiene in preparation of the value added food products by following proper cleaning and sanitization of utensils and also maintaining self cleanliness.
Altogether, 50 Members from three SHGs namely Netaji Self Help Group from Guptapara, Disha SHG from Tushnabad and Shakti SHG from Namunaghar participated in the programme. Smti Kamala, Smti Rama Haldar and Smti Nagavalli representatives of respective Self Help Groups shared their experiences of achieving a good success with their venture in value addition of fruits, vegetables and fish. Smti Kamala expressed her happiness over the fact that due to the support and hand holding of all Govt. Departments like Agriculture, KVK and Industries that starting from a small scale, today she is able to have counter at the airport and her products are being sold among the Tourists.
With the involvement of all the participants, lemon pickle-a value added product of lemon was prepared. This has helped them in learning things by doing themselves. The participants have shown keen interest in learning many things and requested the Department to organize more such event for them in future.

Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov 12: Swell surge alert for the coast of A & N Islands: Swell waves in the range of 18.0 – 21.0 sec period with 1.3 – 1.5 m height have been forecasted upto 2330 hours of Nov.13, 2024. There is a possibility of surging of waves and boats have been advised to ply with utmost vigilance and conduct recreation with due care.
