Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov 06: On 6/11/2024, Nicobar District Police held the inaugural session of “Mahila Manch”, an initiative designed to address the challenges and concerns faced by women in the villages. This community outreach program aims to raise an environment of support and open dialogue, empowering women by offering guidance on important issues affecting their lives and understanding their concerns as well.
The first session of Mahila Manch addressing the women of Perka and Malaca village at Community hall, Perka Village in Car Nicobar engaged in meaningful dialogue and offered support. Mr. Sunny Gupta, IPS, SP (D) N, led the session accompanied by Mr. Solomon Samuel, DANIPS, SDPO Car Nicobar and Ms. Shabana Haneef, Inspector Co-ordination, SP(D)N Office, Car Nicobar, interacting with the women of Perka and Malaca village. Together, they listened to the concerns of the women with patience and understanding, creating space for open discussion.
During the session, Mr. Sunny Gupta provided detailed information on critical topics such as domestic violence, alcohol abuse, and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. This educational and awareness outreach programme aims to equip women with the knowledge to recognize and respond to these issues within their communities.
A total of 38 women participated in the session, marking an encouraging start to the Mahila Manch initiative. Through continued efforts, Nicobar District Police hopes to make Mahila Manch a valuable platform for the women of the district, offering ongoing support and fostering greater awareness on matters that impact their lives and well-being in particular.
