Diglipur, Oct 30: The residents of Shyamnagar village under Diglipur Tehsil have decried failure of authorities to undertake repairs of dilapidated road in the locality.
According to information, the connecting road from Main road to Tete house at Shyamnagar, Ward No. 01 spanning over 750 meter under Zilla Parishad, has deteriorated significantly, causing immense hardship for residents and vehicle owners alike. The road’s deplorable condition has sparked widespread outrage especially among the school-going children, patients and the residents, who claim that the concerned authority’s failure to repair the stretch of road i.e. from Main road to Tete house has exacerbated the issue.
Andaman Sheekha Daily when talked to Smti. Nilima Samadder, Pradham GP, Radhanagar wanted to know more on the matter, she said that she is badly concerned about the dilapidated condition of the road. She apprised the Director, RD, PRIs & ULBs, Sri Vijaya Puram of the road’s rundown condition through letters and urged him to either handover the road to the CD, APWD, Diglipur or release fund to the Zilla Parishad for road in question, but it yielded no fruitful result, the Pradhan alleged. She also wrote a letter to the Adhyaksha, Zilla Parishad Bhavan, N & M Andaman, Mayabunder and informed that the “Main road to Tete house” at Shyamnagar which was built in 2009-2010, the repair work of it has not been done since then and hence, at present the road exists in name sake only, the road has turned to big craters filled with rain waters; while the culverts have broken down, she further wrote in the letter. The next 1.5 km road belongs to APWD. No vehicle can go inside; there is no way for school students, pregnant ladies, and old sick people to evacuate in urgent situations like medical emergencies, she said. Now, she is reportedly demoralized on the matter as she finds no solution to fix the issue of this road. However, she will continue to pursue the road work until it is restored to a motorable road, she further affirmed.
The road from Main road to Tete house has now turned to floodplains, the locals in the area decried. Accusing the concerned agency responsible for the work, the incensed veterans of the village and adjoining areas said that the stretch of road in question has become a source of inconveniences for especially pregnant women, differently abled children, school-going children and elderly, and the road is in dilapidated condition for more than a decade. “It is untenable on the part of the concerned authorities that they are indifferent towards this commuting woes of the residents of this area, the concerned officials should pay a visit to the area and see the aggravated situation of the road and gauge the magnitude of inconveniences we face due to this deplorable condition of the road” the irked veterans suggested. “We make a fervent appeal to the concerned authority to ensure immediate repairs of the dilapidated road in our locality and rescue us from the quagmire of this unpleasant situation,” they urged.
