Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 29: Today on 29th October,2024 the Nehru Yuva Kendra, Car Nicobar in collaboration with ITI, Arong organized an Awareness and Education Programme on Drug addiction and Substance Abuse at the Workshop Hall of ITI, Arong in which 60 youths have participated. On the occasion session 1 was delivered by Mrs. S. Parwati, CHO, Health Department on the topic of Understanding Drug and Substance Abuse, session 2 was delivered by Mr. Nicolas, PGT, Education Department on the topic of Life Skills & Positive Lifestyle, session 3 was conducted by Mrs. Mariam, Sub Inspector, Police Department on interactive session focusing on becoming a “Change Maker.” Strategies for raising awareness about drug abuse in villages. Session 4 was conducted by Mr. V. Uday Ratnam, Psychologist from CDPO office, Car Nicobar on available counseling services and preventative measures and last session was spoken by Mr. Rohit Sahu, Trainer, ITI, Arong on decision-making skills and resisting peer pressure. Earlier Mr. Alphonce Toppo, Deputy Director (OSD), NYK, Car Nicobar welcomed the resource persons from different departments and participants gathered on the occasion and also proposed a vote of thanks at last.

Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 28: The Andaman Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee President Mr. Rangalal Halder, has issued a formal request to the Director of Health Services, emphasizing the urgent need for a qualified Ultrasonography Machine Operator at the Community Health Center (CHC), Rangat.
In his appeal, Mr. Halder highlighted the critical need for skilled personnel to operate the ultrasonography equipment, which is currently unavailable to local patients due to the lack of a certified operator. He expressed concern over the impact this shortage has on timely diagnostic services, especially in crucial areas such as prenatal diagnostics and general sonographic imaging, both of which are essential for early detection and treatment.
The request underscores the importance of deploying a certified operator to CHC Rangat as a necessary step to support healthcare delivery in the region and to significantly improve the quality of medical services for the people of North & Middle Andaman, who rely on the CHC for accessible healthcare.

Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 28: An educational excursion was organized for 125 eighth-grade students from Kendra Vidyalaya No. 2, Mini Bay, accompanied by six faculty members, to explore the ongoing Integrated Farming System, Fisheries, and Crop Science activities at the Garacharma Research Complex of ICAR-CIARI in Port Blair on October 28, 2024.
Dr. T. Subramani, Senior Scientist and Head in Charge of the Natural Resource Management Division provided hands-on experience in topics such as Organic Farming, Integrated Farming Systems, and Watershed Management. Dr. J. Praveenraj, scientist, elaborated on freshwater ornamental fish and the concept of fish spas. Mr. Shyam Sundar Rao, Sr Technician showcased microplots featuring various rice types. The students expressed their enthusiasm for the knowledge gained during their visit to ICAR-CIARI and engaged with the scientists to clarify their queries. They also expressed a desire to observe additional activities during future visits.
Prior to the activities, Mr. D. Karunakaran, scientist, welcomed the group and introduced the institute’s role in advancing agriculture in the islands. He emphasized the importance of leveraging their visit to interact with scientists, fostering confidence, and nurturing a scientific mindset.
The visit was coordinated by Mr. D. Karunakaran, Scientist and In-charge of Agricultural Knowledge Management Unit, along with Smt. Asma Bibi, Senior Technical Assistant, Mr. Ali Akbar, Technical Assistant, and Mr. T. Adharsh Narayana, Young Professional-1, under the leadership and guidance of Dr. Eaknath B. Chakurkar, Director of ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair.
